A while back I posted about an 031 with points that would not run at idle once warmed up. Thought it was the coil, and another member here sent me a known good coil to try. Didn't fix the problem. Finally tried a new condenser and problem is solved. However, before trying the new condenser, I rebuilt the tillotson carb, and now it leaks fuel out of the jet at the top of the venturi after shutting down the saw. Have taken the carb apart twice now and cannot solve the leak. Any ideas? Are these carbs still available? Thanks, Mark.

Tillotson Carb

These carbs are still available. However, it it were me, I would check and make sure that I have everything assembled correctly. I rebuilt mine recently without problems, and it was my first attempt at a rebuild. Good luck.

What do you mean "leaks"??? like one drop or a dribble..?? Does it try to siphon the tank or just empty the carb?.

It would try to drain the tank. If I pulled the cap off the fuel tank it would stop. Pulled the rubber diaphram out of the cap (it broke), and ran saw and it now only drains the carb and fuel line. Have taken carb apart several times and cannot see what I might have assembled wrong. Mark.

The small pressure from fuel being shaken is pushing gas though your carb. The needle valve/arm/spring would normally stop this. The only path though the carb is via the needle valve. Look carefully at the metering arm and needle. As an experiment, take off the metering diaphragm and carb end, and see if it does the same thing. If it does, then your arm is set too high or the diaphragm/gaskets are assembled in the wrong order or upside down.
