I'm going through an 032 for a buddy, needs the usual, air
filter, sprocket, fuel pickup. Is there anything else in particular
that needs attention on these funky looking, cool saws??
Saw actually runs real well, don't know the age, has to be 10
to 15 years old. It's a wonder what fresh gas will do.
Crud is 1/8" thick all over the whole machine, chain and bar are
shot, everything seems to work though, compression is fine,
has plenty of power in a cut. Some guy gave it to him, didn't
want to look at it anymore. Thanks in advance!

These were notorious for two things. AV mounts breaking and screws vibrating loose. Both are low $ to prevent. I would replace ALL of the AV mounts and loctite every screw on the saw.

I actually like the old 031s/032s,they are a good little saw,a bit different to work on though.
They only produced the 032 from 1978-1985,so it is a little older then you thought it was.
The air filter is no longer available from stihl, not sure on the av mounts.
I would say that it is definitely worth repairing.

Thanks Dan and FSR, could I take some foam filter stock, and
cut it to fit in between the two plastic filter halves to get by?
Cut out what remains of the flocking? Just a thought, I've had
to do it for some old auger repair work, where the filter housing
is a stamped steel piece, seems to work fine.

There is a filter listed on Ebay right now that will fit your 032,it might be listed as one for the 031,same filter.I was going to try to buy it but you need it more then I do.

Hey Dan, it looks like it is just the back half, am I looking at the
right auction? Thanks for the heads up.

Come to think about it,that front half wasn't there.
Sorry about that.
If you cant find anything else,I can fix you up with a used one.

Great saws. I have an 032 from around 1980. Other than the things listed, I've heard they had problems with pulse hoses rotting and the muffler shattering. I haven't any any hose trouble, something falls off my muffler every time I use it. Not bad for $10, at least.

the air filter complete is nolonger available, but both halves (sepreratly) are still available. around $9.00 each.

John, it definetely has had some fasteners replaced on the
muffler, looks like cap screws replaced the T-27's. The muffler
shattering has me chuckling, sure hope it doesn't happen
though.

Fish, who or what is Stens? Any info would be appreciated. I
dug around late last night, and couldn't find much for the 032.
It never fails to amaze me how much help a person can get in
a matter of hours here. Ten years ago I would have chased
my tail for a week only to find nothing. Thanks all.

Stens is an aftermarket companies that makes carb kits, filters, etc.

The Web and Usenet are the best places in the world to get information. I'f rather give up indoor plumbing.
