Hopefully someone can clear things up for me.

I have a 032AV electronic saw and it had a bad ignition coil when I bought it. I bought a new coil and replaced it, saw has worked great for the couple years since.

I recall looking at the IPL for the saw and it showed a couple different types of ignition systems, one had two "coils", one being a "trigger" as I recall. My saw only had the one ignition coil. (at least I think it did... I didn't pull the flywheel but I didn't see any wires going under the flywheel either) If mine had a second (trigger module) coil it was well hidden.

I have a new spare electronic coil Stihl PN 1113 400 1310 which is the one I used for my saw. I have someone that needs a coil for his 032AV electronic but he is asking me if I also have the trigger coil.

Was there 2 different electronic ignition systems for 032's?? I want to make sure this coil is the right one for his saw. If there are 2 different systems, how can you easily tell them apart?

I can double check but I am almost certain that they used different flywheels due to timing differences. I'll get back to you later next week if someone else doesn't clear it up first. I am a little foggy on the 03xs as I have not done any in a while

There are two coils -the 1310 is an integated ignition (similar to today's systems). The -1305 was the "points" coil which later had the odd shaped trigger unit (designed to fit onto the screw in the lower right of the recoil area).

Both use the same flywheel. (-1202)

So they all have 2 coils? I only could find the one on my saw.

I think you are saying there were 2 different systems???? Being they both use the same flywheel, can the older 2 coil system be replaced with the newer 1310 "integrated" ignition?

Don't even know if I am confused of not! LOL That is Bad!

yes two different systems... Yes, you can replace one system (1305 coil+trigger, or just -1310 ignition) with the other

yes... but be careful. Many top handle assemblies have been swapped out over the years, and many saws converted to electronic, so the model plate can be misleading.

:newbie:
I know I am jumping onto someone else's thread :blob2: but this thread applies to my situation. I also have a 032av without any spark. I was wondering how to test the ignition module. I get a resistance reading of around 8000 ohms across the plug cap to ground. This is the 032 model that only has one ignition module. The trigger must be built into the module somehow????? They all must require a trigger to fire? I am guessing they use a transistor somehow? :dizzy: Is there any way to test the trigger on this module or to open it up and repair it? I am assuming that with a resistance across the coil it is not open circuited or shorted therefore the trigger must be NFG.
If I should have started a new thread please move it and let me know for next time. I thought that with all of the background information in this thread that applied to my situation it would help with finding a solution.
