As a sponsoring builder who makes his money modding saws to cut faster, the question becomes why wouldn't he post times and/or comparasions.

It's all marketing, Ralph. Numbers are concrete, chopped decks and slick bearings are abstract. I think Dean doesn't like comparisons or times the way most guys don't like chicks with rulers. :hmm3grin2orange:

Washington Hot Saws--nothing's been proved to "help" your saw cut faster or smoother, guaranteed.

cut times vary with tons of factors, say you had some 12" alder, say the saw was tested in 12" alder that sure looks the same. most likely cut times will be way diffrent! operator style, wood age/density. conditions of the tree.. the list could keep going on all the factors that will change stuff. if you give a solid number and a customer expects exactly that and nothing else.. its not going to work!

I have never had a problem posting #'s as any one who has ever read any of my posts about my saws can tell you. In the past I have posted many times and #'s. Two problems arise for me when doing this though. #1 ever one wants video and at this point I do not have a video camera and I hope soon to have one. The other problem is that in the past I have customers who have gotten a little miffed at me for doing it. Some of these guys don't want their buddies knowing anything about it. So for now if the customer wants things shown or talked in depth about I let them do it. If a customer request for me to share on here for them, then I will as well.

If this does not make sense then let me give you a prime example in my shop right now.

I had a Father and Son team bring me down 2 090's to be completely built up for a particular race in which each year they have been beaten by mear tenths of a second to a 10 cube 090. They want to win. So I now have their saws in my shop and am working them over. A week ago I get a call from the guy with the 10 cube 090 and he needs some work done to his saw. We got to talking and realized he was competition to my other customers. I do the best work I can for each customer and hold nothing back. I refuse to show anything to others and let the customer decide if they want to. I do not discuss what is being done to customers saws except in basic terms. I have some customers who prefer that I do not even mention their name and I respect that as well. It would be highly unethical of me to share with either customer anything about their saws with the other.

If you want to know anything about my saw then just ask any of my customers on here who have one or stop by my shop and run some saws.

I am completely booked up through the 3rd week of April and business is not slowing down. Most of my work is repeat customers or friends of those customers. As of last week we started a reservation system and all saws will be scheduled for a particular week, with only 2 woods port saws or one race saw per week to be done. NO EXCEPTIONS. Prices also take a jump again in May as I prefer to spend more time per saw and to build a better product rather than to build quantity.

It's kind of funny. I started building back yard mods a few years back just to help sell some rebuilds that I had done. 3 1/2 years later our shop and our mods are far more than I could have ever even of imagined. Things grow, I've learned and my skills as a builder have matured. I can honestly say that I have learned a lot from many members here on AS and that AS itself has been a big part of my success. There are a lot of people that I would have never of met if it were not for the AS. People who have helped me along the way such as: Dennis Cahoon and Ken Dunn. Helsels, Slayton, Nieger, Warlick and a few others have helped some too here and there. I have even learned thing from Ben Walker (don't let him know that I said that) I have learned things from the poodles on here too that seem to constantly be nipping at your ankles. There are also those like Sawtroll and Lakside who are always there with great information. Al Smith, Mange and some of the other collectors are also a great source of information. This is a great site and I owe a lot to it and every one who makes it what it is.

The paint deffinately reflects what's under the hood.

Thats the first painted saw that I like, nice job. I guess thats the difference between a pro and somebody at home with a rattle can.

Yeah, I've gotta say that thing does look good, and I'm usually not a fan of paint on saws. Glad your business is doing well, Dean.

Daen, sometimes I forget how hush-hush this saw racing crap can get. kinda sad in a way.
anyhow, I see your point. maybe next time just say the owner has requested you keep his big secret then he can get his tail whipped in the switchovers, and not on the running on the saws.

The actual porting style, shape and timing etc. for engines, weather Go kart, chainsaw or woods bike has been a closely guarded secret for years and most likely will remain so indefinately.
What may work just dandy in the high lands of Washington state might not at an elevation of 810 feet in the flat lands of northern Ohio, and vica versa.

The same applies to altered saw chain.I've copied Fales,Cahoon ,Art Martin ,Woodjunkie etc. What works on soft fir trees on the west coast might not in the harder eastern woods although the general gist is there.I might add also that I add a few little strokes here and there so ,good or bad,it must be my chain.

In spite of accusations by some regarding engine modifications, nobody actually steals any thing from anybody as they are all slightly different. Some just work better than other and that depends on the factors such as intended use, regional environment etc.The operater,I might add is a big factor, often over looked.

I'd rep you if I could. ;)

nice paint

Beautiful saw!!!:love1:

I have always wanted to try something simple, like one of those poster girls off of a world war 2 bomber airplane, or something.....just something small and on the side....but i'd probably start talking to my saw even more than i do now.haha

036 She's HOT and She's MINE!! Thanks Dean!

Wow you guys are really nosy, but If I were in your shoes I'd want to know specs too. So, I'll tell you that she runs better than she looks!! If you can believe that. I ran it right out of the box from Dean and It outruns my stock MS460:lifter: Right now I'm truly at a loss for words. I was so excited to get it back and was not disappointed. This is my second modded saw from Dean and I will never again allow anyone else to even touch my saws. He's truly a PROFESSIONAL!!! Lets just say that thanks to Dean I'm can do my job better, faster and more confidently!!

As I am able to run the saw more I'll provide numbers later.
