I have a 038 and the threads in the plastic housing have stripped out where the rubber buffer attaches to the carburetor.
I called stihl and they said I should order a threaded insert from my local dealer which I did. It came with no instructions. Do I drill out the plastic and tap threads into it. There's not a lot of plastic to go around if I mess up. Any suggestion??

Before I drill it out I would try some JB weld first. That should hold it.

I'm afraid if I JB Weld it I could never take it apart if I need to replace the buffer again.

danl, I believe you would fill it with the epoxy, then re-tap.

Thats what I ment. I have used JB for repairs like this in the past and it works great.
