Hello,
I like to start by saying I am new at repairing a chainsaw. I bought a Husqvarna 550XPG for cheap, because the seller could not get it started. Out of anger he broke the top cover.
When I got home it started after 4-5 pulls. It seems to run fine, I cut a few discs with it to try out and cut some old hardwood beams and planks I had laying around for about an hour. In that time it did not quit and idled fine, and started while being hot.
Before I started it at all I looked for scoring through the exhaust port, now after I have taken it apart it looks a lot worse than I initially thought. This is where my inexperience comes into play, what is too much scoring, since it appears to run fine?
I am able to buy a used OEM cylinder and piston, without scoring, for a decent price, therefore I am asking for an expert opinion on this.
I also noticed some gunk in the bottom of the crank case, which appears to come from the heating element of the carburetor, of which the rubber has disintegrated. Could this soft rubber have caused the scoring? I also wouldn't be surprised if the seller ran it with straight gas, since he also stripped a bunch of bolt heads and managed to split the spark plug sealing ring lol.
Again, I am a complete novice, I like to learn by trying, I need to get started somehow
