I was reading chainsawjunky's thread about his muffler cover troubles and noticed that he had mentioned the muffler gasket (where the cover attaches to the muffler). I couldn't remember seeing one on my 044, so I went to my parts box and it seems my saw didn't come with one. Does anybody know if the early 044's are supposed to have this gasket? Or was the gasket added later on.

If someone needs to know what I'm talking about, here's a partial scan from my IPL. The part I'm referring to is Ref. Id. #20.

I believe the gasket was added later on. Besides, you don't need it IMO. Don't waste your money.

Thanks guys, I didn't think I needed it...especially since it looks like the muffler and cover were never taken apart on this saw. My 260 doesn't have one, and it's kinda the same idea.

Don't really need it. it's just there to seal the cover and prevent leaks. If you have one and take it off, checking the carb settings to make sure youre not too lean would be the prudent thing to do.

And if you're really anal and want one, make one yourself out of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Fold it over a few times to get some thickness, plop the cover on and trace it out. snip snip snip and away you go....

Sorry to interrupt your thread but Andy can you check out my muffler thread and see if you have any of the earlier covers like I need?
