I am planning to buy a Wallenstein winch in-feed processor, to feed my outdoor wood boiler, and to sell a little bit of firewood. The processor has a pivoting chainsaw holder, I put a picture in the post showing what it looks like.

I am trying to decide which of my saws to use as the dedicated processor saw. My two bigger saws after a couple 036s are an 044 10mm slant and an 064. Whichever saw gets put on the processor will definitely get the most run time and wear. I am leaning towards 064 as it is bigger, may not wear out as fast. On the other hand I know parts are becoming an issue.

Looking for some advice and opinions.

The bigger saw would be what you want.

Well, it's definitely getting harder to find 064 cases, covers, coils, oil pumps, etc. They are getting up there in value as well. The beauty of those old saws was their power to weight ratio and asthetics. Those things are no benefit to a processor machine. But that is just my personal logic.

Who cares if he's selling wood and saving money on heat with the machine, what you save you can buy any saw you want in just one season.

They are just chainsaws, just machines designed to be used, keep one if one wants to bad enough but there are hundreds if not thousands out there still running well enough to do daily duty. Not every one needs to be saved, if one gets close to worn out then rebuid it and shelf display it. Don`t tell me they are so rare that parts cannot be found for them, I have rebuilt saws from the 1950`s through the 60`s with NOS parts, maybe rare but not impossible to find.

Unless it is a NIB then it is just a used chainsaw. If it does not have sentimental value to one then its just another chainsaw designed to cut wood, I built an 064 mostly from NOS parts and I still run it cutting larger wood sometimes with a 36" bar but more often a 32. I have three 066 saws that I don`t hesitate to cut up anything that comes my way, just used chainsaws no mint ones here.

I understand where you're coming from. I definitely don't think they're exotic vintage saws by any means, but I just have a soft spot for the 064 and the 10mm 044. I agree, they are just saws at the end of the day.

I know that they are just saws but.... I'd keep them off the machine and maybe improve them a bit. They don't make em like that anymore. And never will again.
I read comments that there are plenty about but that is not the case over here. I've been looking for a 10mm 044 for years
