I order a new air filter for my saw , the one I got from the dealer is a 0000-120-1653 its a green plastic screen with a piece of blue foam inside. It says with a baffle take out the blue foam. Is that all that a person needs is just a screen on it.

The original one is a 0000-120-1601B it says hd system its a wire mesh with a felt looking stuff on the inside with a foam pre wrap that wraps on the out side.

With the new one I got I tried taking of the baffle and using the screen and blue foam , fits like crap the blue foam is being squished inside. Is that how they fit? Leave the baffle and use screen or take it off and use the screen with the blue inner. Or take the filter back and get the hd replacement?

A pic would help.

If you have the HD filter setup, then what you want is one of these, 0000-120-1654. I suggest using the foam inner baffle rather than the hard plastic inner baffle.

Take the foam inner out..leave the pre-filter on the filter and put it on. 460/046's dont use the foam inner...thats for 044 and 440.

Good answer. I've replaced a couple of 460 filters and wondered why the heck they give you the foam. Now I know. ;)

I've never seen the 1653 before, but by your description, I'm skeptical that it filters as well as a 1654. I've had good luck with the 1654.

The inner foam soaks up spitback at idle. It doesn't hurt power, but it doesn't really hurt to take it out, either, so suit yourself.
