I purchased a used 046 off ebay back in the winter january abouts. I got a good deal on it because he said it was blown up well i got it and sure enough it was it came with a kicking compression of about 40lbs. I wasted no time in ordering a new piston and cylinder for it from baileys. It was backordered, ok I wait a few weeks no big deal right it has been a while I all them up and they rabble on about problems and my date of recieval is june 20th WHAT I was honestly pissed however I dont feel like spendin over 200 dollars on the official Stihl kit and I dont really need the saw so I wait. June 20th comes around no package still I called them up and talked to a nice rep who told me they come from Japan and they cant get them at this point in time, only if you had a 044 we have kits out the a$$ for them well that does me a whole lot of good right, new date August 20something but he assures me not to rely on that either. Is this all BS or is it just me!

Yep that sounds like a big bunch of sh*t I would look on ebay or try some other web sites like cutters choice or call madsens and see if they can hook you up. I would be pissed at baileys if they tryed that. Everytime I have ever ordered anything from them they have always gotten it to me in a couple of days. I would look on ebay they always have a bunch of jugs and pistons on ebay and that is a popular model saw so it shouldn't be hard to get one at an resonable price.

I cannot find a kit on ebay, and I have had good service from baileys also I think this whole we cant get them because there from japan is crap. They told me they ordered 500 piston and cylinder kits in like 2002 or some sh*t and still havent gotten them, take it out of the darn cataloge then. Am I the only one who has had this problem.

Justin, I gotta be honest. If you can afford the factory Stihl kit, I'd do it. That 046 is worth rebuilding right, and you can get the decomp valve from Stihl, and it's just a better set up. If you were rebuilding an 029 or a homeowner saw, I'd say the $100 kit would be fine. But from one 046/460 owner to another, I say go for the factory kit. JMO.

And give ebay time. You'll see jug kits on there often enough. You could also get ahold of Dean as WA hot saws, and ask him if he's got a set lying around.

Justin, I can understand your frustration. For me, Baileys has normally had things to me in a matter of days, if not, they let me know, and all is well. in your case, I'd be asking for a refund, and get yourself the Stihl kit from the stealership. it may cost alot, but it's worth it to rebuild it, even if you dont need it, just having a big saw is cool.

Don't you see anything wrong about publically bashing a company who sponsors this site with their hard earned cash, so that you can visit here for free and post this about them?
Why not get on bailey's forum here and ask grande dog about estimated ship date?

I'm not a moderator on chainsaw, so this is as far as I go, but I'm sure it'll be seen by someone who will take action. This is just wrong.

do you shoot the dog because he pissed on the rug once?

out of the probably 100 order's i've placed with baileys over the years i had one screwed up order. hey it happens.

No what I think is wrong is them not being honest and saying that they do not know when they will get more in. I think they should have given him an refund and an apology not jerked his chain around for months at a time. I appericate them being a sponser but come on just because they sponser us does not mean we have to agree with eveything they do. This is america and that is how I feel you can take it how you like it I would order from baileys again but not if I got that type of service.

JG, Ralph offered some good advice-ask for an explanation on Baileys forum here.

Sounds like Bailey's dropped the ball, & certainly owes JG an explanation. JG's tone is actually pretty civil under the circumstances. Why shouldn't he mention a problem with a sponsor in the chainsaw forum? So if he posted about a problem with a nonsponsor who happened to have a great reputation among AS members, that would be acceptable?

It's great that Baileys is a sponsor here, & 98% of the time the comments about them are positive. They also sponsor another site that I frequent, & that also is much appreciated.

I hope that AS doesn't start/hasn't been protecting the sponsors from fair criticism.

I dont personally have a problem with Baileys and I have gotten things in good time before and plan on ordering more stuff in the future from them, but I cant understand this. I guess they really are tellling the truth and they did offer a refund but I figured I'd just hang on and get it when they said I would recieve it, but I guess the company they get them from is at fault not them.

I think it is completely fair to state what is happening to you. Bailey's should take the kit out of their catalog if it has been 3 years since they ordered and are still not recieving them. Get your money back and order direct. You'll be much better off. Bailey's is a good company and it is obvious in this particular incident with this particular kit the problems are rare.

This attitude is a perfect example of the mindset of many of the moderators here and atleast one sponsor. It seems that a few feel that a sponsorship here is a license to steal and that sponsors should be beyond public reproach.

That being said, Bailey's did not get to ther position in the market by offering anything less that excellent service under most circumstances. This situation is a fluke and I think you would do well to continue dealing with Bailey's, but also keep at their customer service personnel about the extreme delay in shipping and the fact that they continue to show this item in their catalog.

Darin, you have surprised me with the first statement of your response, excellent outlook on the rights of the members of this forum who are obviously the target market of your sponsors.

Thanks guys. I don't think the point of the original post was a public bashing. Justin was just stating what was happening to him and it is a legitimate complaint. The only time I have a problem is when complaints are unsubstantiated or when members go to far and the complaint becomes an attack.

We're sorry there are so many hard feelings out there on this subject. We are offering OEM cylinder assemblies for the 046's @ $209.95 each until we get our aftermarket ones in. I don't Know if anyone wants to hear the story but, here it goes. We do import these aftermarket kits from out of the country. We have to buy 1000 at a time. After about a 100 or so into the production we were getting casting flaws from a problem mold. Since we had about 900 52mm piston assemblies with out cylinders and had to have molds made. We bit the bullet and are going to offer big bore kits for both the 044/440 and the 046/460. So all the 52mm (instead of stock 50mm) pistons are going into 044/440 cylinder kits, and all the 046/460 cylinders are going to have 54mm
(instead of stock 52mm) pistons. This will push the displacement on each model up about 6cc's and it is noticeable. The very last word I have on a due date is 8-12-05. The problem with these due dates is that we can only tell you what we've been told. As far as the money goes, we never get a dime until a item has shipped. If there is a case where someone has sent us a mail order with money enclosed, we send them a card every 30 days to ask if they want a refund or leave it on back order. Once again sorry for any inconvenience this has caused any of our customers. As far a criticism goes I'm an old jar-head and this isn't the first time I've had a few shots come over bow and I'm sure it's not the last.

So, Grande, tell us more about these kits. Will they have decomp ports? Anything special going to be needed to put the 52mm kit on an 044? Keep us updated, this sounds interesting.

Tom

You see this is why I like doing buisiness with Baileys. they work hard to do right by the customer. best company I've done business with ever.

Grande Dog do you think this new date is probable, otherwise I think I will opt for oem, Could you take the decomp button out of an old cyllinder to put in a new one.
