pump
Will a Stihl tech do?
You need to get the sprocket, (1 eclip), and the clutch off. The clutch is left hand thread. The easiest way to hold the crank from turning is to insert a rope through the sparkplug hole. Insert enough so the piston will stop in the bore. Remove the clutch by turning it clockwise (remember, LEFT HAND thread). The drive tang is now visible. It should almost touch the brake band as you turn it. If it does, it is not broken. Otherwise, it is.
Take the end of the crank and wiggle it. It should have NO play up and down. If it does, you have a bad bearing. This play may also have broken the gear inside the pump.
No play? Good. Take out the 2 screws that hold the pump in. Also look at the output hose. It must have no cracks.
Lift up the pump, and leave the hose connected. The pickup hose is under the lower right end. Work the hose up out of the case. Check for rips, dirt, etc.
The piston in the pump must turn freely. Try to wiggle it up and down. It should not have any play.
Clean everything up and reassemble. If all checks OK, it should pump oil. It is a rare occasion to have a pump go bad, but it can happen.
If the brake was left on, the output hose may have melted. There will be a lot of oil in the cavity below the clutch.
Hope this helps.
