I just bought a used clean 046 magnum from a pawn shop. My first question was did you run the serial no. with pd? They said it is mandatory. So I had them fuel it up walked out side two pulls and it runs strong. Can some one post the tech data please. Once again this is the place for anything saw related thanks to all......bob

Tech data, whatcha need to know. The 046 is a bad mother. Has around 6 horsepower, runs around 14,000 rpms and loves fuel. I got one, love it.

What is the displacement? How does this compare to 372xp husky? This has a 24 inch bar and a new chain. I feelin pretty good about this find...bob

Round 76 cc's. How does it compare to the 372, don't really know. I only run one 372 for a couple of cuts once. They had a 044, 372 and a 046 all sitting there. The 044 and 372 I couldn't tell much differance in. The 046 whipped them both fairly easy but it should, has a 1/2 horse more. If that 046 you just got is in good shape and isn't half wore out you should find it to be quite a saw.

I gotta ask.

What did you pay?

I just bought one new from the dealer about a month ago.. OW!

but, I don't regret it.. makes quick work of the big ones with that 25" bar and full chisel RM!

Well you can forget about trying to start this thing without the compression release pushed in. I think the first thing after trying it for a day or so will be muffler modification....bob

LOL, whatcha talking about, do mine that way all the time though drop starting is something some frown upon. I think the old Stihl rep we had told me the 046 came out pushing 14:1 compression so yes your right, its got some built up steam in there when you crank it.

Well I paid $350.00 out the door. The 372xp was the largest saw in the stable but not any more...bob

Well I gave the beast a taste of wood today. I like this saw. It has a 24inch bar and has a good feel. I will take it and clean up the chain, fire raker's and give a real good look over. Not sure if I'll leave the 32inch bar on the husky 372 or put it on the 046 magnum. I also just got my 575 back from Ben Olson. He did a great job on the woods port mod...bob

Killer,

Your husky bar won't go on your 046 without some modification.

Jim

I usually run a 20" bar on mine for firewood, and there's nothin' it won't eat.

I have a 046, and a couple huskys. I have 1 bar for the stihl and it's shot. I have 4 bars for the huskys 20"-42". I wish I could use that stihl powerhead on my bars.
