Hi guys, I got an 066 with a bad rod and rod bearing. I cannot find a parts number that is seperate from the complete crank assembly. Does anyone know the part numbers for the rod and bearing and how much of a press will it take to seperate the crank to replace the rod. Lastly, I bought some good quality after market crank bearings. Do I need to pull off the inner seals on the bearing to expose them to the engine??Thanks for help the Hoosier!!!!!!

you can't buy a rod and bearing that i know of for any stihl saw. you have to buy the whole crank kit. even if you could, you'll never get the crank separated. i tried once and bent the crap out of a 20 ton shop press. if you did happen to get it apart, you could never get the 2 halves lined back up, and they have to be in perfect alignment, or the saw would tear itself to pieces in seconds. you might find a good used one on ebay, but i'd be wary cause you can't get a good visual inspection on the rod journal or bearing condition. for the price of an 066, your better off biting it and get a new crank kit, gaskets, high quality, high speed, high heat bearings, and while it's apart, look very closely at the condition of the piston and cylinder walls. check boca bearing for high quality bearings, better bearings cheaper than stihl. hope this helps ya.

My stihl lightning has a 2 piece rod, just like an automotive rod, cept the bolts are so you can get them from the top.

my BLK might too, but im not sure.

Well it looks simple enough to seperate with the right tools. We shall see! A pressing and a heating we will go! Heck it's already cashed so might as well do some experimenting. The rod looks like it ran long enough to slightly egg shape on the top end. I havn't got the nerve yet to call the Stihl dealer to price the crank/rod replacment yet. I didn't see one on e-bay yet. Maybe someone out there has one they want to get rid of reasonably. Your right thou Its to good a saw to part out (to much money to replace with new)! The Hoosier

JohnB, what are you going to do if you do get the crank seperated if you can`t buy a new rod?

Russ

I have a new crank & rod, both bearings, crankcase and gasket for an 066, email me if interested. I only needed a top end for mine.

just puttering

Well Russ, It's like those goofy buggers that climb mountains (because they are there). I don't know I just have always learned if I can disassemble something, to learn something, its a good idea. I really want to see if the crank sustained any damage from the rod bearing failure. And yea I have some boxes of things I tore apart as a kid and never put together!!! The Hoosier
