Just got an 066 that turns out to be a 'red light special'. Of course, it has no spark. I'll tear into to clean up all the connections and the mounts.

My question is: The ignition module has two terminals--one for the kill switch, I think, and the other is disconnected. No loose wire present but something used to be on that terminal.

Anybody have a wiring diagram, or know what that terminal connects to?

Thanks, Chris B.

2nd terminal is for the light.

and no, a regular 066 module won't work.

Jiml,

Thanks for the reply. I looked a little closer and see that somebody clipped the LED wire up behind the carb mount. Tucked in a bit, so it was hard to see. Would this kill spark? I'll pick up some parts and rewire it.

Thanks, Chris B.

Sorry chainsawworld, I want to keep it and fix it up. Besides, as well as needing a new ignition, the bottom end is loose but I have a pile of crankcases coming so I should be able to find something good in there. Top end is perfect.

I rewired the LED and cleaned the coil mounts but still no spark. I'll swap plug leads, and check all the wires for continuity but I'm pretty sure the module is gone.

chris,
i don't blame you a bit. the "red-eyes" are great running saws. the next generation of 066 was not so good. when the saw was reved. up out of the wood they would really scream. as soon as the bar was put in the wood the right side of the saw would slow down but the flywheel would maintain rpms and shear the crank off at the case. marty

Can't wait to get it running then.

Incidentally, the clunking and rattling I was told were the bearings turned out to be a worn clutch. At least, the springs were fatigued so I stole a set off my 045 spare clutch (don't think short enough but still a fair sight quieter.) The drum is also wobbly, so I'll replace the bearing next. I should probably splurge and get a whole new drum/rim/bearing system but first I work on spark.

I was shocked to see how skinny the clutch is. I'm used to my 045/056s and my 075, all of which have massive clutches.

Hey CB, I just finished a 066 that needed a major and had a similar ignition problem. turned out to be a bad coil. Its' an 066 arctic or was an arctic. wires everywhere!!! I iliminated most of them cause it's never going to far north again and hell if it's that cold I'll set by the fire anyway. It's a screamer!!!! 36 inch bar with skip tooth chain and a 7 tooth sprocket. Get a maxi flow air filter kit for it!! Incredible air flow. If ya still need the wiring info e-mail me and I'll try a scan my books pages for you! good luck!! the Hoosier

Sharpen your chain it's a jungle out there!!!!!!

I checked every wire and connection, LED works, cleaned mounts, swapped plug leads, still no spark. Need to get a new coil. Could be worse. Still am going to disassemble to clean the carbon and sawdust, probably change the crank seals.

So happens that it's a dual port muffler too!!! I get more excited about this saw everytime I think about it.

Later, Chris B.
