I am wondering what I should expect to pay for a well used 066 that would need to be rebuilt in non-running condition ?? I would like to find a good one to rebuild instead of sinking all that money into a brand new one.

It's important to know what's wrong with the saw when you get it and generally what the part cost to fix it is. Then you can balance to total cost of the saw with the fixed and running value. With the price of parts, you can quickly get to 50% or higher of the cost of a new saw.

If you can get a parts saw for a good price, and it only needs a top end, that's not too bad, but if the top end is trached, it can take out the bottom end too. Then it's better to walk away. If you can find parts saws locally, you can sometimes get a great deal. From what I've seen on ebay, parts saws got at or above their value - sometimes significantly above....

Yeah I have been looking on ebay. I have found some 066s on there but I am reluctant to buy from online pawn shops, ect. that have these. I would like to find one that would just need a new top end rebuild. I am suprised to see what people are getting for parts saws and worn out 066s on ebay. Even those are going for high prices.

It depends on a number of things How Well used (what needs replaced) and if it is a complete powerhead, 200 -300 would be an average range. You could always check with one of the sponsors like WHS Washinton Hot saws OR Ben olsen @ northwest chainsaw they may have something worth having and can build it up for you then you will know what you have!!!!

i can buy them from the local saw shop from $100-325 depending on condition. just bought a running 660 w/ new 24" b&c that needs piston for $400. so for 450 i ought to have it ready to go.

046/460's are my favorite. bought 1 that needed top end, put the bb kit on it. new 24" b&c. $340 total. absolutely rips!!!!!

another 2 to make 1 on the bench for $150. heads only.

Greg,

I've seen your name on a number of 066's and 064's that I have bid on. I agree they are typically too high for being in unknown condition. This time of year seems nuts. My local dealer gets very few big saws in, so I have not had much luck in that area. Good deal on the cheap donor saws.

Greg,

That is some good prices for those used saws. That is more in line with what I am looking for cost wise. I wish I could find one like that around here.

I really lucked out on my 066. The outside looked..."used, well used" (think Bond, James Bond), but the piston and cylinder looked brand new. It has a lot of hours but was well cared for. I paid $425 shipped with two 36" bars, also well used. Still use both. Some of the prices I see on the 'bay anymore are too scary for words.

However, I love my 066, it most certainly is "the King".

I paid $250 for my first 066 from tkemble, member here on AS.

Running condition. Even though it didnt need it, I put an OE P&C on it and for $500 I had pretty much a brand new 066.

same here. plenty of 21's, 23's and the occasional 025, but 44's, 46's, 64's or 66's? yeah, you wish he says. :(

No different here. I see lots of 025s, 026s, and especially 028s, occasionally an 036, but that's "special". My local "bad" Stihl dealer nearly has a parade when they bring in their annual 066, and the Husky dealer still doesn't really believe that I have a 3120. I don't know where the big saws go.

Yea with 2 days to go it's on its way to $500 +.

Your probably right.

I have bought two 066, one running for $300, so far has been a very
good saw, I use it to mill with. Then found another, not running had
a broken ring land, took a chance on the bottom end for $150, no luck
bottom end is bad also. Both saws were made in 2000, so I ended up
with one good saw and some good parts for $450. You win some
and you lose some.

 the 066 runner I have now I bought From Dean @ WHS, It was a parts saw that had a good crank, tank, carb, filter mount, clutch, flywheel, ignition coil, cylinder Needed light honing but stilll good, working chain brake and trigger contols, it needed a piston, (New Aip installed by WHS & an oregon clutch drum with powermatch rimsprocket ,) Used Muffler, airfilter, starter recoil... Now it took him a while but the man does good work..... he put it together,,,, tested it and shipped to texas $380.00 american,,,,,, now it aint a pearl white show saw but it tell you what since ive had it,, I've done a very mild exhaust relief and enhanced the intake, added a dual port Muffler reajusted the Carb, and I'm here to tell you it freaking Ripps:rockn: I buried a 30 inch bar w full chisel chain in some 36-48 red oak this weekend and it wanted more,,,, no problem   I did put a good Elsatostart grip on the recoil, Had to after I did the modds the first time I started it it kicked back and I could not make a fist for about threedays I am cleaning it up with some of my bone pile parts and its looking better, as soomn as i figure out how to attch a picture I post one on it,,, Hey I under stand the Ben @ NwCS does really great work too they are awesome sponsors and deserve acknowledgement:cheers:

hautions11, lets dont bid against each other. let me know when

so far the only one i have been burned on is a jonsered 670 from an as member who has since skipped. delivered, but condition was far far less than stated, and he didnt include the bar. go figure???

i always ask the seller some questions. if they are forthright w/ answers & info then i consider the auction. if they are evasive then i decline. works for me.

there was a couple more 066 & 044's at the local dealer last time i was there but i ran out of money before he ran out of saws.

want me to check them out for condition and price?
