Stihl 075-076 question for y'all:

I know that the carb in these guys will limit to about 10k rpm if the governer is still functioning. I also know that lots of folks advise plugging the governer and getting a few more revs out of the saw, too. So the question is this: assuming my governer is now plugged, what sort of RPMs should I be looking to get out of the saw?

Maybe you can take it 11k safely, maybe..... It's not a modern saw.. I wouldn't plug the govenor. The saw won't cut any faster if you do.. It will just sound faster at WOT...

Seriously.. There is only one correct cutting mixture, and just making it rev higher unloaded at WOT doesn't help..

Andy,

I imagine you're right Andy. I have my 075 setup for milling and it used to have a terrible problem with loading up during a cut. So much so, that I'd have to back off for a few seconds and run it WOT unloading to clean it out. (And several times during a cut.) With Stihltech's advice, I blocked the governor, set the carb rich, and those problems went away. In retrospect, the governor was probably just malfunctioning, but it was an easy fix.

Yep.. I have seen the govenor valve go faulty also. They are cheap and simple to replace (screw in from the outside of the carb. I figure stihl has a real good reason for not wanting that old sawsaw to over-rev, so I put them back. If disabled , you just have to be real careful with wot.

I see a lot of these governed carbs on the like of the TS350 concrete cut of saws, but only a few govenor failures.
