084 Air Filter Difference

I have an 084 that currently has the plastic cartridge style air filter, the type held on by 2 aluminun nuts.

I recently saw a pic of an 084 with a filter set-up similar to the HD filter on my 066. (Cartridge-style, with foam wrap.)

Anybody know if/how the 084 can be made to take the HD filter assembly?

Was I looking at a pic of an 088?

My 084 also has the HD filter. The saw was bought in the mid 80's.

Yes, you can change it. You need a new backing plate, filter filter cover and a few other parts.The foam coved filter is obsolete and has been for some time. The "newer" HD filter has a felt prefilter and fleece-type core. It does not require oiling like the old filter.
