Yeah, the supply is such that demand is extreme thus the moonshot boocoo bounuenue bucks. I dunno. It's only worth something to guys like us thay have saws that run it.
Sean is correct here, I come from a manufacturing back ground. Un-mothballing that old tooling and putting it back in service to make 1000’ feet of chain a year? For collectors? They would lose money on 1000’ a year even with that crazy price. There really no market for it, hence why it's not made. .404 takes the power any hand held saw can dish out and jump to 3/4 for harvester these days.
It sickens me how many NOS 090 6 shoe clutches and FG2 bench mounts I sold. I never kept one for myself. I had boxes and boxes of 090 clutches. They are all long gone.Like I was telling the OP, I look at the price of nos 084 mufflers, 056 Ignitions, Husky 2100 topend kits, and 090 6 shoe clutches now compared to what I sold them for just 5 years ago, then compare the value of the dollar now compared to 5 years ago, it makes me sick to my stomach.
I agree it is not economically feasible. If a company wanted to try something different they should work on improving the .404. I think you know what I mean.......Problem with 1/2” full chisel chain is the bike saw guys stripped the market of it 20 years ago, so if you stumble across a piece, you should try to buy it.
I’d be curious to know what the overall decline in chain sales in total has been over the last 20 years.I agree it is not economically feasible. If a company wanted to try some different they should work on improving the .404. I think you know what I mean.......
Yes and some versions of .404 are even getting tough to find.Heck .404 doesn't seem as popular as it used to be either these days.
There is one version that would be very popular among some if it was made available.Heck .404 doesn't seem as popular as it used to be either these days.
I have no idea what you mean. There is one version that would be very popular among some if it was made available.
Well I have never seen it but supposedly Stihl has a special .404 that they allow certain racers to get .I have no idea what you mean.
Good ole full chisel high tooth, it’s attainable if you have the right ear to bend on.Well I have never seen it but supposedly Stihl has a special .404 that they allow certain racers to get .
That is what I was hinting at in post #48 and #52..Good ole full chisel high tooth, it’s attainable if you have the right ear to bend on.
What size loops and how many?Heck have hard enough time just getting regular loops of .404 sure not worried about a more expensive top secret loop.
Just make new tooling with a 3D printer!Sean is correct here, I come from a manufacturing back ground. Un-mothballing that old tooling and putting it back in service to make 1000’ feet of chain a year? For collectors? They would lose money on 1000’ a year even with that crazy price.
