1/2 inch chainsaw chain

Hello!

Where do I find 1/2 inch chainsaw chains (not wider than
0.063)? I do not mind chain reels if available ... .

Also, I have been told that there should be 7/16 chains
available - where do I find them?

1/2" and 7/16" pitch saw chain are no longer in production. Chain loops do come up on e-bay from time to time and if you hunt high and low you can occasionally find some leftovers / parital reels in old shops, etc. Often the best source for loops is buy a few old saws that come complete with bar & chain. It is frequently less expensive to buy a whole saw than shopping for loops, since anyone selling the chain by itself probably recognize the value and charge accordingly.

This is what I had sort half of figured out myself - but as
I recived domestic advice in Sweden to the contrary I pos-
ted this post!

What I had otherwise figured out myself as an alternative
is to use harvester chains - is that something that people
do???

I have a loop of homelite 1/2 inchx063 for sale in the tradin post. It's homelite chain 67 drive links I believe for a 24 inch homelite bar

Thanks - but I am planning for quite extensive semi-prof-
essional use - chain reels is really what I am looking for -
I will go for harvester chains - if needed I will simply use
machines to modify available solid (no-nose-wheel) bars to
available chains widths ... .

Yeah you're not going to find 1/2" and 7/16" pitch chain in the quantities needed for daily or semi-daily use. .404" x .063 or .080" gauge harvester chain would be the way to go. It's cheap compared to 1/2" and 7/16" pitch chain, it's currently in production, and you'll find a lot more .404" bars available for harvesting in both .063" and .080" gauges.

I was fortunate to find an older dealer in my area that has almost a full spool of Stihl .500 chain and very reasonably priced.

Well - in Sweden dealers do not stock chain reels at all - much
less exotic ones like 1/2 inch ... . So this will not happen to me!

Hello again!

I have Oregon's standard (non-heavy-duty) spinner and breaker.

I was able to find "stuff" to break 7/16 and 1/2 chains, see here

But what do I do to spinn them (I have presets and ties of course)?

Of course, I guess I could modify a couple of "spinning take up
handles" to fit to 7/16 and 1/2 just by first taking a good look on
how they relate to smaller chains, sort of ... . But would be better
with something more professional ... .

whats the saw do you need the chain for?
i'd say try swapping the saw over to .404" did it to my yellow 660 and it cuts wayy faster

Funny - I am trying the opposite - reminds me of a couple of neigh-
bours - one worked a summer to change his asfalt roof to metal - while
the other one did the opposite .

(Perhaps you have some spare 7/16 and 1/2 x SD7 sprocket rims then?)

Anyway, the query remain - see above ... .

Yeah - I understand your message !

I have found one 1/2 inch one from the US for USD 15 (plus as
much in shipping :msp_mad: ) - this one in fact

Chainsawr chainsaw 1/2" x 7 rim sprocket (misc bin)

But I have also been sort of half-promised a couple of rims from
another source - should they not surface I guess I WILL BE BACK .

With a regular spinner. There are different size anvils that fit in a regular spinner.
