Can anyone here assist in the process for resetting the pull start recoil spring on an 1-86 gear drive? I marked the position prior to removing the cover only to fully clean the area including a degrease of the spring area. Figured out how to insert dril rod to engage it to rewind and when attempting to start the saw it lost its engagement. I’ve seen videos of the difficulty on complete disassembly on this . I did not take off the rope winder part during the clean up. Any help appreciated! Thanks

Wind the rope on the spool, pull it out 1-2 turns, hold the pulley still and wind the rope up, hold the recoil cover in place and re-install the screws that hold it on. These saws are one of the easier saws to re-spool the rope on.

Thank you for the quick response. The spring appears to be disengaged from the spool. This is what I need assistance with doing. I put a drill rod in the hole after winding the top back on, turned the spool to creat Twain, had it all back together, then when trying to start the saw, the recoil came disengaged again. I don’t believe the spring g is broken.
