I go to the local dump to find engines I can repair and onsell and came across this as new ferrex chainsaw. It’s an Aldi cheapie, ($150).

I paid $10 for it and got it home. It doesn’t have a high idle setting for starting and so it doesn’t cough / splutter on choke so it’s easy to flood. I think this was the reason it was dumped, the previous owner couldn’t get it running. Bar and chain is original and in as new condition as is the rest of the saw.

A quick sharpen and it cuts really well. Besides the hateful quick chain adjust / tensioner in one that is convoluted to use, I actually really like it

I made a fun short video of it:

Nice find. Sounds like your dump is more a flea market. And the video is to short.
Thanks :) yes they almost are like a flea market. Check out my videos as I do a number of walk arounds of the dump I go to! Yes, only 15 seconds on a YouTube short If you want to add music to it! Maybe I’ll revisit it sometime!

Mate, that's fantastic. I try not to go to the local dump too often, old things with engines tend to follow me home.

How'd you reckon it'd go with a decent chain? It'd be worth half the saw, but still!

Thanks mate! I totally understand where you’re coming from, it’s hard to resist getting stuff from there. Regarding the chain, honestly it cuts well and smoothly, this is Australian hard wood too so not like the soft woods in the americas. For this saw, as you say, is not worth it for the return putting a $25 chain on :)
