Today I climbed with my new cougar. (that is a gay name for a saddle) It had to be a spruce tree too. I almost used the old tank but really wanted to convert today. I ran a micro pulley with a prussic cord tied in on VT knot. Sweet !!! I love that knot. The best part of the climb was when I was spiking up and able to pick up the slack as I went. Old school had to stop and use two hands after climbing up for a while. Ever spike your rope as you climb past it:monkey: I'm guilty of 1 or 2 times. We rigged out the limbs off the fence and the wire. I used a limb saver to rope off of. The wife calls me on the way to the job to tell me she has a box in the car for me, could it be my new CMI 3" pulley?:buttkick: Could have come in handy today. Well, at least it's not full of sap. Took the bottom 25' to my buddy in 2 pieces so he can make boards. Neighbor liked what she saw and I'll be biding on 7 white pines for her. Great day for a climb, 63 deg. in a small town close to the Delaware River.

Always nice to be doing a job and get another. When they see you in action and they ask for an estimate it means they like what they see and probably wouldn't bother calling anyone else.

Way to be professional!

Thank you for the kind words M.G., Some times neighbors just say when can you do it. However, this one is going to be pricey. 7 pines in a flower bed (they are worried about the plantings) and 4 are over power lines. I'm considering a transplant of all the plants and rebuilding the bed due to the acidic soil and the amount of sun light they are about to get. It'll give the grounds keeper something to do. I'm going to figure it all out today and present it to the HO this week.

Nope, I'm by Allentown (Billy Joel) 20 min. from the Delaware River. Alot of trees between you and me.:chainsaw:

cool

Ya PA is a biiiig state.

I used to drive to NH frequently and it used to floor me that it was a 12 hour drive and 6 hours of it was getting out of PA.....

Went to do the estimate for the 7 trees today. I presented my idea of redoing the flower bed. She really went for it and is going to call the gardener to get a price for taking out the plants and reforming the bed. I said she would save enough to get it all done and have a whole new garden. I'll blast the trees out in a day easy, grind the stumps and I'm out. 10 tons of soil and replant with additional sun loving plants, fabric, mulch. She will be happy as a clam. She said she would probably use my company and asked when could I do the job. Told her I was on vacation in one week, she asked if I could do it before I left. So, I think this one is in the bag. Feels good to help out for less $ and giving her a nicer yard. Some customers you really connect to, that's when they tell their friends and family about your business.

Word of mouth is the BEST way to get business. When I was cutting professionally, actually not far from Allentown in Sullivan County, NY, I spent 136 bucks in 5 years on advertising. Bought 1000 business cards, twice. That's it.

When I first started, I was working full time at the Local Agway Feed Store, and cutting in my spare time. I made friends with all of the local landscapers and construction guys, cause they were always stoping in for potting soil or this or that... got lots of referral jobs. Enough to ditch the Agway and go at it full time.

One summer, I actually got seven weeks worth of steady work from one afternoon of trimming 8 Maples and a Cherry overtop of a woman's house. Every neighbor on the street wanted an estimate, so on and so forth.

Best of luck with the flowerbox lady, and nice estimate.
