been doing a bit of serching again and found (well checked out after rollacoasta mentioned them) and the sell Yale XTC with 2 eyes....im sure everyone here recommends against this

here is the link to the page so everyone can check it out....would having 2 eyes be kosher if they were stiched or is this still a no-no

Many people I know climb on I&I 16 strand.

The thing is not that it's inherently bad, just that the rope has to be well milked to ensure that the scond end does not loose the core/cover match.

Is it worth it to have two eyes? I know I replace my climbing lines WAY before an eye would ever wear out. How long to you plan on keeping a climbing line where you'd be concerned about wearing out an eye?

I would like an eye on each end of my rope so I can use the tail on the second tie in to clean up the looks.

I dont think that anyone would be concerened with wearing out an eye, and some get the extra eye to cut it off and use it as a split tail.

Nick, can you use a locking brumnel on 16 strand like on 12 strand? I am just wonderin.

I splice all my climbing ropes with 2 eyes, on short lines (less than 30 feet) they are great as you can work from one tie in then if you need to move beyond you just hook into your tail end, move the prussic up to that end and undo the first end. Works great if you dont want to drag long lines through a tree but still want to always be secured.

"Also the taper leading to the eye would interfere with the way I use some of my ropes. Knots work great for me and the price is right. I like the way the anchor hitch and the buntline tighten down on carabiners. I don't like the slop an eye has on a biner and the taper of an eye doesn't work well on a tress cord."

I'm puzzled by what you mean by the taper interfering? I don't have a clue how you're using your ropes but i don't incur this problem.. I also use a tress cord and have seen no problem w/ the taper hindering it. Who does your splicing? If the slop is the problem w/ the eye then request the eye be tight, I've always thought the larger eye was sloppy myself and never liked girth hitching it around the biner, so i alway make themw/ the tight eye. Eye splices are far superior to any knot IMO.

the eye is only large enough to barely fit the carabiner in. It keeps the carabiner from flopping around , just about as much as anchor hitch does.

eyes

ok, so what has been said here is that milking would not be a major problem,

im pretty sure that the splices would come with the certificates of conformity, to fit in with the LOLER regulations.....ropes and textiles have to be replaced after 2 years of use, if not before.

most of teh ropes we have at work are multiplait with 2 spilices which i know aint a problem as there is no core and sheath to milk.....

it was just a concern from what i have read here, iv emailed them as well to see what they say

here is the reply from a+f

"The arborist rope is a sheathed rope with 75% strength in the outer
cover and the remaining 25% on the inner core. In the European Ropes
(Cousin; Edelrid and Marlow) the inner core is nylon which has a memory
and THIS is where the milking problem is - NOT on the outer core. What
happens is you climb on the rope which stretches it and then you store
the rope until the next time - during this period the rope is relaxed
and the nylon core remembers that it is not supposed to be that
stretched length and returns to its manufactured length. It's a bit
like your nylon visor on your helmet - often that gets bent etc but when
you leave it alone it returns to its' correct shape.
Yale XTCPlus and New England have a different centre core which does not
have any memory and therefore to have factory spliced eyes each end is
perfectly safe. I certainly wouldn't allow it on any of the European
ropes - which is sad"

I ordered a 200' hank of Blue streak today, with eyes in each end. I think that this will be good for a second tie in with the tail. I also got the paw and the swivel. I often use a sencond tie in with the tail, and the biners often lock up (hence the paw) and also get twisted around each other (hence the swivel) and get side loaded somewhat. I might not like the swivel, but it will always be able to fit in my gear box :).
