20" RS Skip on 361

A buddy ordered the wrong size chain for his Husky and then gave it to me 'cause it fits my Stihl 361. Its Stihl RSF, full skip for a 20" bar. Normally I run full comp., but it was free!!!

Any experience with skip chain on a 20" bar with a 60cc saw? Good, bad or who cares!

I'd run it. I run that same chain on my 660/441 at 28". Not real great for bore cuts, but it throws chips and you'll love how quickly you can touch it up. I also run the rakers a little lower on it than a full comp.

Prolly won't cut as fast as full comp..............but whatthehell it was free.............use it!!!

Although full skip on a 20" bar may seem a little weird wait 'til you go to sharpen it and see how quick the sharpening process is having 1/2 the cutters!!!

I've used skip on my 25" bar and it cut well. No problems as long as I let it eat and didn't lean on it. I know its allot of bar for the 361, but if I let it eat it runs great. Looking forward to trying the 20 skip although I usually hang an 18" off it and that gets most of my work done.

You will have to sharpen them more often, as fewer teeth will have to do the same cutting.....

Ja ja ja I know but holy cow! I wouldn't be surprised if he likes half skip chain because it weighs .317 oz less than full comp while cutting .345638 seconds faster that skip yet keeps sharpness .267484339 cuts longer than blaaa blaa blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

It is not nit-picking, but about the basic understanding of how things work - the skipped teeth are just skipped, and not replaced by anything - so there will be more sequenses for a given dl number.......

Btw semi-skip has about 80% the cutters of full comp.......
