I have seen some pictures of an opened up 200T. I would like to do the same to mine. The metal plate/ muffler where you are able to pull out the spark screen and drill holes to open it. I dont think this plate is the actual muffler, right? The actual muffler is located in the far left hand corner. So does drilling holes in this protective plate only make the saw louder or does it actually help give the saw more power. Please let me know if I am wrong, I dont want to drill holes in my favorite saw just to make it louder. Thanks again

If it makes it louder, it is because it is opened up, breathing better, and thus cutting faster. It's not a good idea to drill on the muffler while on the saw, iron shavings getting into the bore would not be a good thing!!

Do a search for rahtreelimb's old thread where he posted story and pics of his thorough job, wwhich incuded a screen for the new ports, a good idea.

i think we have some new mufflers at the shop, if i remember i'll get a pic so you could understand. yes that flat plate is part of the muffler. the spark arrestor cuts the muffler in half. it's an odd shaped muffler they have stuffed in there.

Thats the most positive thing I have been called on here in a while!!! LOL

Since your a master of putting and end to crappy stock saw settings, what are you thoughts on my other thread regarding mods and break in time. There are two opposite views.

I see nothing wrong with doing muffler mods on a new saw, so long as you are not worried about the warranty. You will more than likely have to richen up the carb settings!
