I have narrowed it down to two chain to buy for my next loops im either going with 21LP or 34LG...my question is do the bumper drive links on the 21LP affect cutting speed?

21LP is faster than 34LG if your saw has the power to pull it. It`s also easier to sharpen.

The guard links don`t seem to have any appreciable effect on cutting speed for the saws that this chain is appropriate for.

I've cut with both the 22LP and the 35LG, both are good...I liked the 35LG better...but the LP worked great too. Incidentally teh difference might have been that when I had the 35LG I had a bunch of it so whenever it was dull I either switched cjhains or sharpened. I was stilla bit of a greenhorn when I used the 22LP. BTW these are just the .063 gauge version of teh exact same thing you are looking at..but you prob. knew that. Jokers how is the LP easier to sharpen than the LG? They are both round chisel. I also heard Oregon was discontinuing LG in the .325 pitch. Any truth to that rumor?

In .325 the LG has a lower cutter profile than the LP, and it takes a smaller file to sharpen it.
I would guess that the Husky 51 has enough power to make the LP (or Stihl RS) most suitable.
