Who ever said ANYTHING about the Dolmette being a "Designated Race Bike"? It was the product of a backyard barbeque and plenty of German Beer and I bet everyone that went to the Comic Event that the Dolmette performed at along with many other comic wheeled vehicles never thougth, what a shame that is didnt beat a CAR in the race. It was a large party that the bike was run, kind of like the blimp, it is really big and it wont beat an airplane or maybe not even a hang glider but I still think it is a unusual item that everyone marvels when they see it in person.

I used to ride, common sense and a nervous wife shut it down. For the money yes (bikes) they are faster. No bull though four wheels versus two on the road money not an option cars are faster. Go to the drag strip some night and compare the sport bike guys numbers to some quick street cars #'s . You may be surprised.

Ok, new guy here so I am probably stepping in it, but what the heck. Some of my roadracing friends take their bikes to the dragstrip to practice launches (A misspent youth dragging bikes means I don't have burn my clutch up practicing). Best part of it is at the end when they just drop a knee and hang a couple of 90s to come back. Always freaks out the drag guys.

As for the rest, just head to www.mylaps.com and look up some laptimes for various WERA and SCCA events. Gixxers will turn ~1:30s at Road Atlanta, guess how much you have to spend on a car for that laptime?

I would think that if you built a bike from the ground up, to have a high power to waight ratio. Set out to race with it, but it turns out to be too slow, it wouldent be a "Designated Race Bike"

If you read that page about the bike, it seems thay were hoping that it would have gone faster,,,, perhaps the beer was talking?

"A machine that goes this fast also needs to stop fast. The front wheel is fitted with 292 mm twin disc brakes with 16-piston calipers. The back wheel has a single 292 mm disc teamed with a 4-piston caliper."

I'm glad the bike is a huge draw for you!

I'm kind of new here too, but it has not stopped me ;) :D

We ride bikes, we know what is going on, cagers can only dream about it.... :D

"The only thing worse than riding a bike in the rain, is NOT riding" :D

Cheers!

I can't believe I am still posting on this thread. Do you gsxr guys like cars at all? My race car is almost done. I'm shooting for high 10's low 11's no nitrous. High nines on the bottle. At this point traction is so bad I'm glad I didn't buy a kit yet. MY "cage" is eight point and I'm quite comfortable in it.
cheers Oh yeah, Dolmar guy, I "get" the bike don't defend it for my sake.

Sure, I love my van, it pulls my trailer to the track, carrying my bike :D

Seriously, sure I love cars, I used to have a 69 Datsun pick-up with a Datsun 2000 cc motor. The PU had a little 1300 cc motor in there, that the previous owner blew up, I shoehorned the bigger motor in, made my own motor mounts, and took a set of headers from a 510 and modded them to fit the truck. I ran 3 1/4" exhaust to a BIG muffler out back. I had a cut out pipe right under the drivers door, which I rigged up with a motorcycle clutch cable and spring, so I could pull it open when I wanted to, but it would close in seconds when the cops showed up. :D

The truck had a stock 4:13 rear-end, I shortened this and tubbed out the back a bit, and then too my stock rims, and cut them in half on a lathe, welded up some steel in-between the two halves, and put some big tires on them, white letters in, so you could not tell without looking close, that the rear wheels were not stock (well from the side). The engine was not stock, I put high comp pistons in there, and some hot cams, as well a twin Weber carbs, on an intake I made myself at work (I used to work in a steel fabrication shop) all kinds of neat things you can make using a CNC :D

I could care less about how it looked, it was a work truck as well, I carried many a load of firewood in it for my dad, as well as my off-road bikes. It was fast stop light to stop light, the truck wound out around 80 mph, the rear end was too low for top speed, but it was sure fun to cruise main street on a Saturday night!!

I remember pulling up to some guy in a Camaro or such, I'd rev the motor and he'd kind of look over slightly interested, but disdainfully, then I'd rev it again, and he'd take a closer look, old crappy looking Japanese PU, three colors of bondo, he'd laugh, and rev his V8, then I'd pull my cut out cable and rev it again, this time he's look over like what the F&%#K is that...?

Stop light to stop light it was fast, and it cost me less than $1200 Cdn, and was a fun cage! I had the typical roll bar in the back of the truck.

BTW, I'd not call what you are building a "Cage", that is what I can the cars people drive on the road, that they feel like they are caged in driving, no fun etc. I've got two of those as well, both vans, but I'm not caged in, as I also own bikes!!

love cars, love the old ones the most, but they are just too darn expensive, one of the reasons I moved to bike for fun.

Nothing against cars, just for fun bikes are much more bang for the buck, IMHO.

Cheers!

PS, any pics of your 1/4 mile car? Love car pics ???? :D

Cheers!!

1/4 mile car,,,,,,

Stu

Here is a 1/4 mile car that I had the honer to Crew Chief for.

It's one of the lightest Jet Dragsters there is at about 1400 # , you know it's going to have a good pass if it hits the 60' mark in less then .9 seconds!

It has a GE J-85-5 turbine from an F 5 Fighter, with our own after-burner, the most I had ever seen on a string scale was 8800 # of thrust.
It drank about 30 gallons of K-1 per pass.

Good air at sea level will give you a 300 MPH 5 second run.

The best fun was when we would bring it to elemtery schools and give presantations for the Race To Read program (kids would get free race tickets for reading extra books)

If speed is money, you can buy a new engine for about 1.3 million.

Waaaaaay cool!! Pizza delivery in 1.9secs lol

Check Speed Records on the Bonneville Salt Flats!! They HAVE broken the sound barrier (in the 70's I think), but non-the-less, like ta take that ride to the local greaseburgerpit, awwww, then to the gravelpit.
