Went to my local stealer today and they had brand new non mtronic 261s for sale. They had zero mtronic 261s. Same price for the normal carb version which i thought was odd. Is the normal carb version just as good? I'm sure some would prefer it, I'm probably among them.

I've never ran either, but if I had a choice I would buy the standard carb. Some folks prefer mtronic, but I just don't like the idea of having to depend on a dealer for software. If they supplied a cable with the saw and had downloadable software on their website, then I would do the mtronic. With that being said, I do have an autotune saw because Husqvarna doesn't sell a standard carb version of the 545.

Some years ago, I bought a new MS 261 (pre MT auto tune) for dad to replace 028 Super stolen out of Bill's pick up at Menards. Later recovered the 028 and sold 261. Was definitely a nice saw.
Recently I bought new 261cm powerhead. Really like the M Tronic. My long time dealer didn't give me any static buying pho

Word of caution, the Std carb could be older Version 1 or newer Version 2 (Same for M Tronics). My .02, find a better stocked dealer and get the V2 M tronic

I'm pretty sure they were new stock, although I didn't ask. I'll find out before buying what version it is. Would it make a big difference with the normal carb version?

The 261 (traditional carb) is an excellent saw, and of course is currently manufactured and available. I’ve really liked mine, and have found this saw to be very durable. The only silly thing about the 261’s that are available in North America is they come standard with a .063 gauge setup. I personally think the added thickness and mass of the fatter drive links slows the chain speed down, and is probably more about making chains hard to find unless you go to a Stihl dealership. If anyone has a different and possible perspective on Stihl’s reason for the .063 gauge, I’d love to hear it.
