i just ordered a 15' 5/8 3 strand 2 in one flip. im used to using a single steel core flip and a second lanyard for working. what im wondering is how many of you use these type of flips and do you prefer these over carrying 2 flips into the tree with you?

I used to use that set up and it worked fine until we removed a large blue spruce. The prusik got all sapped up and was a wicked PITA: basically fighting with it to adjust it. This had happened before with Pines, but not as bad. I have since switched to the Grillon: much better, no sap problems, wicked easy to adjust. I normally climb with a climbing line installed; when I don't, I will bring the old 2 in 1 up the tree with me for safety. One other note: when I was using the 2 in 1, I found the 16- strand Prusik was easier to use than the Tenex one.

i might give one of those a try if i ever run into problems with mine. we dont have much pines here but we do have coconuts and those are filthy at the crown where your flip gets all black and gnarly.

The Grillon will adjust under pressure: takes a little getting used to when you want to "grow" your lanyard. The thing that's great about it is that you only need one hand to adjust either out or in.
