i recently cut some 8 foot slabs and inch thick so i went and bought a moisture meter and it says it already down to 7-16%. isnt that a little too dry to be so fresh and to have been rained on the day before i cut it? also my firewood reads average 9% but burns like crap and sizzles. think my new meter could be bad? one more thing what do you let it get to before planing it 6 or 7ish?

What sort of meter is it? If it is a contact pin type meter then you really need to cut a fresh surface and measure that.

In my solar kiln that would seem about right, but if you're airdrying then only the outside is dry, sweetgum is like a sponge...Good luck!
