3120husky bad air filtration .
We have ran these saws a few years ago and found they couldnt go four cuts threw dry gum with out the air filter filling up with #### .has anyone else found this ??

I think some of the fellas over there put panty hose around the filter, and add some oil/grease around to help trap the fines. They can tell you more than I can. I havent really noticed anything getting through mine, but our wood isnt quite as dusty :)

Got any parts that need a new home :p

Howdy,
The foam filter works the best for dust. The other thing that can be done is to switch the whole intake system over to the 3120K style of filtration.
Regards
Gregg

Watch out for the 3120K systems, they had some problems with the mold process on the filters a few years back, they were inconsistant on their thickness and would easily stress crack right through the middle of the filter. There might still be some old stock in the field to watch out for.

Maybe swing by http://www.arboristsite.com/stickies/175005-181.htm and ask around. I know there are a couple members on that side of the pond, and they can maybe suggest better options.

3120K is the concrete saw.

I know I have seen numerous posts about the bad filtration over there. What do you need that size saw for? Maybe a smaller saw with better filtration, and have it ported?

cheers for the reply ,its pupose is docking big logs to firewood and felling most of the time would just do seven or so cuts then grab the 395 with the 28" and can breeze through the rest .

gee its a bit of a process to get to the filter with the demo saw haha but if it does the job might be a goer!

air filter problem

I have been thinking about mods to my 3120 air filter. I think the problem is that he filter top does not seal properly. My solution is to cut down the threaded boss on the filter housing, make an adapter to hold down the filter top, but not the exterior cover. Tap the top of the hold down adapter to take another thumb screw to hold down the exterior. That way the filter can be tighten independently of the exterior, which I think is the problem with mine.

My saw has the felt filter. I wonder how the foam one would work. Have you looked into prefilters? Like outerwears?

Hate to see these big pigs get killed by a little dust, they sure can get the job done.

Hi mate.
Firstly the finer wood dust is going straight through the filter material itself. You can grease the seals and add O-Rings all you want and it won't solve the problem in your case with our finer wood dust.
When I bought my 3120 a few years back it came with an extra filter and a can of aerosol filter spray oil. The dealer said that Husky would void my warranty if filter oil wasn't used and I had an issue.
It doesn't suck in any fines but does block up a lot quicker.
I have also had similar issues on the Dolmar 5100-S, the standard Dolmar 7900 filters, and the 390XP Huskies I've owned. Filter oil fixed the lot with no grease or O-Rings. The 3120 is a great saw and I've heard of far less issues with them than the 880's when worked hard in our conditions.

filter question

How would it work to use the foam as a pre-filter over the fiber filter?

In my experience pre filters don't actually stop finer dust from getting into your engine, they just help lower the amount of larger particulates clogging your main filter.
In fact some pre filters such as on the Dolmar HD kits actually make things clog up faster as they did on my two 7900's.

I have a 3120 and I noticed it had some fine dust in the carburetor and it looks like it is coming through or under the back of the white plastic cover that sits on top of the air filter. Any help would be appreciated. This is a new saw. Thanks
