OK, just got a new 3120xp for milling doug fir. Noticed a lot of input on variouse threads regarding muffler modification as a way to reduce running temps and extend powerhead life. This new saw has a baffle plate mounted on the outside of the muffler housing over a spark screen. The plate is held fast with four screws and is perforated with five slots to allow for exhaust flow. Is there a simple modification to be made to this plate that will result in real world gains with regards to running temps short of removing the whole muffler and shipping to a specialist for modification? Just looking to make life a little easier for the saw considering the application. Thnx bman

If you do a search for muffler mods you'll find a MASSIVE amount of helpful information on the subject.
Heres a pic of a husky muffler, I think for a 372XP thats been modified. look at the mounting bracket on the bottom, thats not a factory port and can be done with a dremel. This also looks rather neat when done as the one in the picture is.

I hope this helps some. and remember to richen the carb after modding the muffler. and take the muffler off the saw to open it up, otherwise you'll let alot of metal dust into the cylinder, which isnt a good thing.

If you open the muffler on the saw you will also half to richen up the carb a bit. Remeber that the saw has a fixed high jet that will need a bit of adjusting so that you do not cause a lean condition.
