I had my Homelite 330 running decently yesterday, but it required careful placent of the choke flap to keep it running. Today it would only run with gas shot into the carb. I had the carb all apart yesterday and everything looked OK. Tank pickup is clean also. I dont know what else would be causing this????. Theres one on ebay I hope to grab if the price is right, for parts..maybe a good carb? Mine runs strong when its running!

Thanks!

Mike

Did you replace the diaphragms or just take it apart, clean it and put it back together? The flexibility of the diaphragms is critical for the carb to work as a fuel pump. Also, if you did use a rebuild kit is the pulse port blocked by a poorly cut gasket?

The 330 is an old saw. If you haven't already, try rebuilding the carb. I'd put in a gasket kit any time you have it apart.

Also, the 330 (or was it just the 360 and up?) has a rubber boot between the carb and the block. Those things always crack and you get an air leak. That's the first thing I'd check.

Rebuild that carb!! You wouldnt believe how good a saw runs after you put a $5.00 carb rebuild kit in it. Most old saws I've encountered have went about 20 years until the carb diaphragms are totally dried out. They should probably be replaced much more often than that. Whenever I get an old saw thats the first thing I do. It really brings the life back into them.

Like they have said, plan on replacing the Diph & gaskets but the 'throat' connector below the carb is also an item that needs replacement with age. Before you do, check the Isolator rubbers to see that they are not allowing excessive movement that will stress the rubber 'throat'....by any chance have you had to 'jerk' the bar out of a pinched cut?

mike,
the 330 is one of the models that the carb backs away from the jug. be careful, the saw will sieze up if you continue to try to use it. tighten down on the carb studs to close the air gap at the intake manifold. protect yourselves; marty

The guy I bought the saw from had just replaced the boot, and I saw it was in good shape when I had the saw apart, no tears or rot or anything. How much do these kits cost? Who carry's parts for Homelite these days? Thanks!

You'll spend around $6 for a gasket kit and around $11 for a full parts kit. Any small engine shop should have them. What does the 330 use, an HS?

330 Carb repair

John the 330 has either a Walbro WT-4 or Zama C1s-h3

Like John said check the rubber boot between the carb and the motor, they are notorious for cracking! I've seen 330's right out of the box have cracked intake boots from sitting in the warehouse to long. And yes they are a royal pain to change.
Good luck.

whell i do not think that they are all that much of a pain. last one i did was on my dads saw and it tool me 20 minutes to do and the saw was running shortly after that.
