I borrowed RBtree's cali tree saw the other day and it started to run a little lean at idle, it was running cool before that, so I had the climber send it down, assuming that a peice of crap got suked into the carb. when I pulled the air filter cover off the filter looked incomplete, just a plastic frame, oval in shape with a 4-5mm foam filter around that and the throat of the carb was completely open. whho has one of these saws? and is this the complete setup? Also ran the saw myself and couldnt get it to do the high idle thinbg again. and naturakly the limiter caps are still in place so one cant richen the low/high.

Yep, that's the one they show in my book however it is not the only one for that saw nor is it the one that came with mine. The one you have, husky says you need to clean it often (daily) shake or brush it and replace it if it is damaged. To clean it throughly warm soapy water and rinse. Be careful not to let a gorrilla put the cover back on, it is easy to crimp the H - L adjustment screws and that makes it hard to tune. The filter from the 335 should fit it in a pinch. This hi idle thing? L =low idle H =hi idle T= adjustment screw for idle. Clean the filter first then put it back on before you try to adjust the idle. Adjust L first then, adjust T then, adjust H. I take it you can't get it to 4 cycle? Did you miss T? Sounds like you missed T. If it doesn't 4 cycle you're too lean, start over again, Turn L clockwise gently till you hit the stop. Adjust the idle speed with T just enough to get the chain to stop rotating. Turn H counterclockwise until the stop then turn it slowly clockwise till the saw runs smooth then, tweak H with the trigger pulled till the saw 4 cycles a little, too much 4 cycling and your too rich. If the saw whines it's too lean. Sounds like you got one screw too tight, don't try to adjust low idle with L, use T to adjust the lo idle. Play with H to get the 4 cycle burrble. Most try to set lo idle with L, try setting it with T before you pull your hair out.

No the saw runs fine on the top end, the low needle is as rich as it will go, leaning it out does what one would think. I wondered about the filter because it dosn't seem to seal to well. and as I said after cleaning everything, then checking the carb it was idleing fine. I suspect a peice of crap got in the throat.Thanx for the refresher on carb tuning I could have easily forgotten something after working as a sawboss on the shots for 6 years.
