Well I had 2 builds this week that got finnished. The first was a stihl 260 that is built for an Arborist in S. Ca. It is turning 14,500 out of the wood and 11,200 in the wood. The 346 was built for a barber in S. WA and is turning 15,000 out of the wood and 11,800 in the wood. So which do you choose?

I almost forgot to mention the 346xp is wearing a 16" bar and full comp chisel chain. The 260 is wearing a 24" bar and full comp chisel chain.

I'll take the 026 on this one. That's a lot of bar, and it's still keeping the rpm's up.

Note: This is a statement being made by tinhorn...

No comparison. Never much liked 026's. love my 346's....much better saw, stock or built. better anti'vib, filtration, and shape, more power....and when built, torque band gets much broader.

Huh? The 3003 bar mount is the same from 16 to 36 inches..

That’s kinda what I was thinking when I read that as well???

I pick the 260, only lost 600 rpm to the 346 with an extra eight inches of bar and chain.

In their present state the 346 is going to be faster but its not really a fair fight now is it?? Put 18's or 20's on both of them and let'em rip. I bet the RPM's are a little closer then, might even favor the 260 but I bet the 346 is easier to bog out than the 260.

Even them up (same bar length and chain) and let us know what the results are, you got my curiosity up.

The 260 has an unfair advantage. It was built up a little more than the 346. The carburetor is off of a 046 and there is a lot of extra milling work done to the cylinder. The 260 is by far the stronger saw but when it comes to being nimble the 346 has it beat and the torque on the 346 is fairly nice for a 15K saw. It buzzed through 3" hard knots like they were nothing. I think it would be a tough choice and more dependant on what you need a saw for. If it were for limbing for the chipper then the 346. If for falling and processing 20" and under the 260 would be a dream.

Keep em straight Lake!!!!

Id take the 346 nimble and quick in light weight package. Just what the doctor oredered. I do light the solid orange color though.

I might also add that all things being equal a 260 modified doesnt have a prayer against a 346 modified.
I have owned a mod 260 by two different builders and currently have a mod 346. There is no comparison from a a cut speed standpoint, not to mention other points of superiority in favor of the 346.

Depends on how the 260 is modified, there are ways as a woods saw to put it on even ground or even slightly ahead of a modded 346. Just got to think outside the box a little.
