Im curious, but I was at the saw shop the other day, and the dealer there was telling me about how there are two types of chain sprockets. One type is part of the hub/clutch mechanism (all one piece) and the other is just a ring that slides on a shaft. Hopefully you know what im talking about here. Its kind of hard to describe. Anyways, concerning the 346XP, which one of these does it have? My husky 350 has the bigger one... all one piece. Thanks!

The IPL for the 346XP shows a rims system. This should be what it would have since it is a professional saw. The rim system also allows the rim to float on the spline thus causing less drag.

Same here. All of my 346XP's have had rims. Some .050 ga, some .058 ga, all .325 pitch.

Remember that rims are dedicated in terms of pitch, gauge, and tooth count.

There I go again. Spreading bad info.

Thanks Brian for the correction. :D

Then the width of the drives on the rim sprocket are at the maximum gauge anticipated by the chain company?

I don't know if anything has changed, but my 346xp came with the rim sprocket but then about 6 months afterwards, my dealer said they were now being shipped with the spur sprockets. He chalked it up to husky trying to save a buck.

Noone mentioned one of the biggest advantages to the rim and drum system, easy gear ratio changes. Slip the 7 tooth off and slid an 8 on, or bigger yet on some saws.

HI
I have seen both the spur and the rim design on the 346s. All of the first ones that I had used the rim, later on I had a few of them come in with the spur on them. They are now back to using the rim again.
If you want to change over from one design to the other, you will also have to change the oil pump drive gear. They are different.

Does this also apply to the 357XP saw?
I just got mine and was suprised to see the spur set up. I believed this to be a " pro" type saw.

Well my 346xp came from Walker's with a 3/8" sproket. He did change it out either, came from the factory.
