Hey Guys,
I have a Husqvarna 346xp with a 18inch bar on it. Can anyone tell me what I need to get for a chain for it. It is the original bar and chain on it. Also, where is a good place on line to get it from.
Thanks,
Joe

Not sure how you'll take chain advice from a woman....But Woodsman Pro 20RC from Bailey's....That's what my husband uses religously on his.

I take advice from a woman all the time. Its the hearing what my jwife says is a problem. Thats what she tells me at least. Yes 20rc is great.

wich chain?

i agree with the othor members woodsman pro 20 rc or rcs skip if your gonna run say a 28 inch bar for something it is a superb chain you will never look back!!!!!

The 346 is VERY partial to semi or full chiesel chain, at least mine is. It just isnt the same saw without it!!

Call me stupid but what is 20RC. What am I supposed to be looking for. Dont know much about it. Can someone tell me a part number or something so I am sure to get the right one....
Thanks

If the bar is a NK one, Oregon 95VP/Husky H30 (same chain).

If the bar is a regular one, Stihl RS/RSC or Oregon LP for clean wood, Stihl RMC or Oregon BP for dirty wood.

Tell us more about the bar, like the gauge, and it will be possible to be more spesific.....

Btw, those saws perform better with a shorter bar.

Welcome to the site!

OK, brief overview. Disclaimer: I am presuming that your saw was NOT set up with 3/8" pitch chain, which is not an appropriate choice for a stock 346xp anyway.

There are two kinds of chain that most likely came on your 346xp. The first would be standard-kerf .325" pitch chain. The second would be narrow-kerf .325" pitch chain, which (big surprise!) is somewhat narrower in the cutter and utilizes a slightly thinner bar, the net result being that it makes a narrower cut and uses engine power more efficiently. You need to figure which of these chain types you have. The numbers stamped on the bar or the chain will answer this question for us, so check it out and post that info on here. Once this is figured out you'll know whether you're running regular .325" pitch chain or narrow-kerf .325" chain ("NK" chain). The numbers will also indicate what gauge the bar/chain is (.050", .058", .063"; NK will only be .050, but be aware that not all .050 is NK. :dizzy: ).

After you figure out which type of chain you have - pitch, gauge, NK or not - your next challenge is to figure out how many drive links there are on the loop. So count 'em. The numbers on your bar will likely answer this question for us, but count the number of drivers on your chain just in case.

Then, armed with this information - pitch (.325"), gauge (to be determined), NarrowKerf or not (to be determined) and # of drive links (also to be determined), you will know exactly what you have and what you need. Then, you can either pick some up at your local dealer or place an order from one of the better online sources for saw parts and accessories, like Bailey's or Amick's (both Arboristsite sponsors).

Thanks for being so patient guys...Ok, I just checked the saw...This is what everything says.
Husqvarna EM Original Bar
508 9261-72 18" 325" 050" 72DL
On the Chain every few teeth it says LV and 30
Hope this helps guys...
Thanks alot
Joe

LV means Low-Vibe, and 30 means Husky H30 - it is a narrow-kerf chain.
The part number on the bar verifies that it is a NK bar, probably made in Norway.

Replacement chain could be Oregon 95VP, Husky H30, or Jonsered S30 - they all are the same, made by Oregon.

95VP is a very good "allround" chain for saws in the 50cc class.:biggrinbounce2:

Woodsmanpro 20 NK is another option, but I have seen mixed reports on those.......

i stongly! agree with computer user as in regards to witch pitch your stock power head will run most effectively. proper ground semi chisel chain is very efficent in cutting ability. and will stay sharper longer (on average basis) for you good luck.

The 95VP is a semi-chisel, but the corner is much narrower than on most other semis - it acts according to that, and is a very good allround chain for smaller saws......

Ok guys, thanks for all the help...this is what I ordered from Bailey's.
72 OR325 95VP Oregon 95VP per Drive Link
Hope it is the right one...Thanks again..It is nice to know people are willing to help out others...Dont find that much anymore....
