With the cover removed,and the spark plug in put a socket on the flywheel and see if it turns ove. If the rope problem is the culprate you should be able to turn it over with a socket and wratchet, Ken

You can just turn the flywheel by hand also - counter clockwise. Don't go fitting another piston... that's not your problem... And in any case, you'd want to keep the piston/cyinders/rings as a set as each is worn uniquely.
