Hi all,

First off, many, many thanks for the good advice I've seen posted here.

I've been cutting firewood for a few years now, all with crappy saws. I'd list 'em in my signature but the list would go silent for a while until the laughing stopped!
Crapsman, Pullon, Partner (yes, one of the cheapo-s). At any rate, they were mostly freebies and served the purpose until I really started cutting this year.

Broke down and bought a Husky 359 and could not be happier! Man, what a difference... Anyway I ditched the Cat muffler and put on a std 359 muffler. Dremmeled off the silly mixture stops and reset to just under the 13500 RPM spec. However, seeing an earlier post today got me wodering if the saw uses a rev limited coil and I could be setting myself up for trouble?

Thanks again!

JD

It's got a rev limiter alright, it's called that cat muffler.

With the mods I have done the 359 does not scream, but cuts fastest at about 14,400 to 14,600 WOT.

For sure your 359 is not rev limited and is not too lean! I think though that a 359 with no porting work, should not be set to near that high no load open throttle or it would be too lean. Just a cautionary thought.

Good point, with an opened up muffler and no port work, the saw gained about 200-300 RPM over stock for where the 4 stroking break point was.

ive got a new 359 e-tec myself that i havent really started to poke around on yet. ive searched quite a bit about muffler mods and such, and i guess i have a couple questions about it still. can you mod the cat muffler? i assume the cat is just a plate in the middle of the muffler? could'nd you just drill a hole through it? or do you need a non cat muffler to really get the muffler mod effect. also what are the carb limiters? are they just little plastic stops that limit how far out you can turn the low and high screws? can i find them without really knowing what im looking for? and do you turn the screws out or in to richen the mixture. ie. are they air screws, or fuel screws?

You can mod the cat muffler. However, the catalyst inside the casing stores a lot of heat which is not good for the lifespan of your saw. Replacement non-cat muffler runs under $40.

First question is correctly answered by the second question.
can i find them without really knowing what im looking for?
Yes.
and do you turn the screws out or in to richen the mixture.
You turn the screws out (counterclockwise) to richen the mixture.
ie. are they air screws, or fuel screws?
They are fuel screws.

Oh, by the way, welcome to ArboristSite!

Urbicide,

Well thanks, great to be here. I'm fully "on the path" as one year ago I had one saw and now have 5.

Three projects and two that do the work..... Oh, and maybe another project on the way. :)
