268xp Need help reassembling internals for the plastic flag handle

I am having trouble rebuilding the plastic style chain brake handle on my 268XP. One of the dogs was broken on the knee link and the forked spring was also in two pieces. I purchased replacement parts, but am baffled how the coil spring is installed. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I did not disassemble this handle by choice. The chain brake did not work and when I pulled the plastic flag handle off, it exploded like a peanut can of springy snakes. I later found the coil spring in the pocket of my hooded sweatshirt, but I do have all the parts.

Exploded parts diagrams are vague, no good youtube videos on this subject can be found. Perhaps someone knows if this design was used across other models?

I think I have a 272 I took apart in pics that might help.

Nope just after pulling apart to see if anything would work in 670 and it didnt.

Buy a aftermarket 272 cover for 25 shipped for any parts you need. One I cut up for a jred.

670 last pic shown that a part with same part number is different between years on 670.

On this poulan the spring is on the plastic rod and have to use a flat screwdriver to push in for home.

One of the 2 prongs at front broke on this one too. But works fine.

Oh ya lot of folks put those in back wards. Goes in first before putting pin through etc.

Got a 50/50 shot. If wrong brake handle is to close to top handle. If get it wrong flip it.

I'll take a pic of one later that is already off a saw.

So it literally just hangs out with no physical attachment. Awesome. I'll follow the illustration. I appreciate your help RCR

I must just get lucky as never paid attention to all of that stuff written stuff.

I take apart put back together.

Was putting a band in this one and stealing parts from a broken one to finish it.
