One of my buddies is going to purchase a new 372xp soon, and would like to know about the differences in air filtration. Mine has the plastic, two-piece filter, so I can not tell him one way or the other on the flock style filter. Mine has worked very well, and through my seventh tank of gas, is still performing extremely well. Yes, I have cleaned it, and keep it clean. Anyone running the flock style? I see madsens and baileys sell with the large flock style. Any feedback greatly appreciated. The style mine has requires very little cleaning, same with the 346xp. Any notable performance gains with the large filter. I would think by design the flock style would be harder to clean.

Howdy

The Makita DCS6800 comes with a winter-style steel mesh filter that fits the same intake manifold as the Husky 371. I'm going to try it on my Husky 372s. Of course it's only good for winter time use because it doesn't filter the fine powder as well as a flocked filter does. I'll try to compensate by using a K&N "pre-filter" nylon cover.

The nylon screen filters are nice and easy to clean but can be somewhat easily torn also, and don't seem as though they would catch the fine dust as well in the warmer seasons. Some guys run them all the time seemingly thinking "this air filter is just as good as the other style, and this one is easier to clean."
They do make the nylon screen ones in two different meshes, one finer than the other - I believe ~40 micron and a ~80 micron, something like that.
I think the flocked ones are a better filter, it's just that you can't clean them up as well - Husky's Air Injection helps - or as many times. Especially if you're making your living with a saw, a little maintenance pays... I swear some guys I know are using air filters that should have been thrown out several months/cleanings ago...
Husky makes a winter filter for the 371/372 that is the same shape as the flocked & pleated paper one with a nylon mesh instead. I think the taller (flocked or nylon) filter is supposed to be a little 'higher' performance. (better airflow, I guess?)
Pantyhose???!!! Not on my chain saw!!!
I would like to see if K & N makes filters for the Huskies, would be interesting to try, just for kicks.
