so some some strange reason i decided to buy a brand new 372xp. i paid right at 800 with a 32" bar and an extra chain. it doesnt have all the new emmisions crap. i also have a little 350 i paid 75 for. i want these two saws to scream. what do i need to do? muffler mod? and how much power gain in % should i expect?

I want these saws to scream he says! Last time I checked a 372 it did just fine on it's own. Throw a 16" on the 350 and be happy but if you feel the need there will plenty of power guys comin by shortly to teach you how.

I agree with the above - you'll get 100 responses to this by tomorrow in the chainsaw forum. I have a feeling 85 of them will tell you that a 32" bar is a bit much on a 372xp. My company puts a 372xp and a 441 as standard equipment in all of it's crew trucks and each of them run 20" bars. For bigger bars - we have 395's and up.

In any event - you bought a great saw. Good luck with it!

a guy like myself likes to mod things. and as far as i know anything can always be better. my bad on posting this in the wrong colum. im new around here and havent quite figured my way around yet. cool site though. lots of usefull info.

Same with the 575xp- better to go to Stihl. The MS441 I like, I don't care if someone don't like it. A 36" bar on a 441 works great. :)
Jeff

It works, I wouldn't say it works great. Probably works a lot better in softwood. Mine bogged and binded like a mofo in the big hardwood. I would only use the 36 on the 441 when I really had to. To tell the truth I think it's only rated for a 32" bar. However, I've heard a lot of the PNW guys claim that it works fine with the 36" bar in the softwood out there.

I've got video of this cut where you can see the saw binding up but I can't get the vid to work for some reason now. This is a crane pick on a heavy piece but the 36" bar didn't run too great on the saw logs either. It worked but it didn't scream.

i love my 441 it has a 20" bar on it though. Let me tell you it :censored: rips. I just bought a 372xp with a 24" bar...i'm not impressed. I think I have to put a smaller bar on it.

what sprocket are you running :greenchainsaw:eek:n it i run 24"on mine and like it

I have a 24" bar on mine and it doesnt bog too often. only when i am realy trying to dog it through some wood.

the 372 screams on its own, simple mods like the muffler mod will give little noticeable gain, but every little bit counts to some!

interesting.

sounds like some carbs need adjusting. My 372s run a 24" with authority.bone stock,no MM.

I run a 28" on the XPW.

Ill be the first to say that i was kinda sick when i got my 372. It has a 20 in bar and my 455 rancher would out cut it, but the carb was out of wack. The dealer had it running to rich. I got a aftermarket muffler to mod and adjusted the carb and itll get it now. 28 inch bar is the max recomended by husky, but theyre people on her running 32s and 36s. Mostly on ported saws i believe.:)

Mines bone stock with a 20" and my arms give out before the saw bogs in any wood. Hands down one of the best saws you can own in fact it's the only husky I have for work in a fleet of stihls and a saw that I've never thought needed more power.

that was my impression when I started running the saw, it seemed to rich. Have any suggestion on adjusting the carb? I don't want to screw it up?

Its hard to adjust a rev limited 372 by ear. Youll have to adjust it in the cut or buy a non limited coil. If its 4 stroking all the way through the wood(mine was in bar lenth wood) just lean out the high screw(turning it in) a little at a time till it clears up.
This is just my opinion, But i found it really hard to tune a rev limited saw in the wood or not. I bought a husky non limited coil,Trimed the carb limiter stops off, and opened up the muffler and im tickeled to death.
A tach will really help. I borrowed my buddies when i dicovered that my saw was just turning bout 11,000 rpm. ( It was sick at 11,000) I got it turning close to 13,800-14,000 now. The factory coil is limited to 13,300.
You cant screw it up. Stick a screw driver in it and note the position before you ever start messing with it. If you do get it out of wack, go back to were it was set at when you started. Sorry so long.:)
