Hi guys. Ive been looking for a larger saw for a while in the 90cc class. Sometime over the last month whilst nerding over specs i noticed the 395xp has been derated on the website from 7.1 to 6.6 hp. Im confident it was over 7 hp when I first started exploring.
https://www.husqvarna.com/us/products/chainsaws/395-xp/965902749/Do you think this is a typo, more restrictive muffler, or the brazilian made saws?
i was literally about to pull the trigger and revisited the specs one more time and noticed the change.
any insight would be appreciated.

Usually a horsepower derate comes with a drop in rpms...has the rated rpm changed?

Im not sure what it was before. They only show “max power speed“ on specs and its listed at 8700rpm. It seems this used to be in the 9k rmp range but dont quote me on that. I could be mixing it up with the 390xp.

A derated 395xp could have a baffle in the muffler, it will really choke some power of. Heres a muffler that i gutted, the thin plate was full with a 1/2" hole at bottom part.

Not sure what they were thinking, not only does it rob power but it makes the motor run very hot in long hard cuts

Dont know. As vague as they are on changes or new stuff Im scared to buy a new one cause it might legitimately be neutered and not just a typo. If I had an idea that a 595xp or even a 590xp was imminent I would wait, but Im just gonna bite the bullet and order a new ms661.

Good choice:) I like my 661 far more than my 394/5!! better handling, and very little performance loss to the 394.
supposedly more power than a new 395, looking at specs...

On my Husky dealer's webpage the hp ratings depend on the bar size; from 7.1 hp for a 20" to 6.87 or so for a 36"

Maybe @spike60 can chime in here as he's a Husky dealer

Can't see Husky neutering their 94cc big saw to .1 hp over a 390

266xp muffler that had a baffle
Wonder why they had the design even back in the days?

Just go to their site and shoot them an e-mail. Get it from the horses mouth. Or just purchase a Stihl, much better saws.
