I have a late model 395xp that is stock, and I would like to try and mod the muffler on it. The exhaust deflector has what appears to be a restrictor mounted to it. Does that have something to do with EPA? If not, what is it for? I guess the easiest mod would just be to cut that restrictor off. Also, any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I apologize in advance if this topic has already been covered. I did try to search for an answer before posting.

Here are some pics of the muffler:

Carb tune?

Just tune it as you would normally.

Another thing you guy's could do is remove the base gasket and replace with some suitable sealer or copy paper. Not a difficult nor time consuming job.

Use the 288 deflecter

The part I ordered does not look like it will work it is 288 deflector part 503 58 99 01 and it is slightly curved on one side so it won't mount to a flat muffler, doesn't seem right or look like your pictures. Maybe the company sent the wrong part? I don't know let me know your thoughts if its wrong I will have to call npec and get it corrected, or do you guys just flatten the deflectors out before using them? Thanks
