I had a customer last week, try to tell me
that the 40 foot long trunk of a tree
(already down and cut into firewood lengths)
was the "stump" of the tree.
And wanted me to do something with the "stump"

Has anyone else ever run across this type problem ?

the customer's terminology is usually screwy. I get people asking me to grind a root for them and it turns out its an entire stump. or calls to remove trees and its a bush

Yes. Back in April I had a customer ask me to quote him a price to remove a very big stump. He wanted the top part of this stump removed but leave the bottom part to stay,(2' above ground). !!! Just like you had, mine was a 30' cottonwood trunk a little over 4' dbh. Customer was going to drag it to his bush with his tractor and requested it be cut into 5' sections. I dropped it, made 5 cuts as requested and walked away with $100 for my part. Some customers tell you WHAT they want done but its a good idea to fine out what the reason is as to WHY they want the work done!!! Fine out thier needs first, then you'll know what NEEDS to be done! Here's a pic of one of those tall stumps. HC

I couldnt agree more. I dont know how many dozens and dozens of calls I had for a removal of really big tree and turns out it's maybe 16" accross. then again I have had people call and say they need a little tree work done and before you know it booked for a week. Customers very often have no clue clue what they need, want and the so they call it whatever they want.

ya, i had a customer call 2 weeks ago wanting , and i quote " a couple of stumps removed" i whent to the job prepared to do maybe 5 stumps tops and it wound up being 40 huge 20" + stumps. customers do get their vocabulsry mixed up i think its just beacuse they dont know our terminology. hahaha just like me trying to explain a dam computer problem to a geek. LOL :hmm3grin2orange:

On the quote there should be options to tick off and then have the customer sign. Logs stay y/n, firewood stays y/n. Then you can point it out when the mutt, I mean valuable customer tries to BS. It ain't the stump, its the buttlog, Butthead, now where is Beavis?
