I picked up a 36" D196 404 bar for my Homelite 750. I'm trying to figure out the DL count. By looking at the numbers on the bar does 112 sound right? I think it's close because I have a 32" 404 for my P62 and it's 101DL.
Should be somewhere in the 104-108 range depending on sproket at both ends.
I believe it's 106. If you lay the chain in the groove of the bar before making a loop, wrap the chain tightly around the bar and then leave yourself 6 or 7
drivers beyond the end of the bar and that will give you the total driver count.
With 3/8 chain I leave 5 drivers. That is up to 36" bars. Do you need to leave more for .404 or for bigger/older saws?
It depends on the length of the chassis and the size of the sprocket, as Jim mentioned.
Obviously chassis length is one reason why an 088 takes more drivers than a 660. In the older Homelites it can be even more of an issue.
Are you positive that it is a D196?? The part number leads me to believe it is a D023.
They both will fit the 750. I took a look at the Oregon book and it says the correct driver count of .404 on a D023 mount bar attached to a 750 with a 7 tooth gear is 106 count
