Well, Id first like to start by saying thanks to all those that offer up their time, and expertise to help out those of us who are clueless.

Ok, I got the saw together, put some fuel in the tank, oil in the tank, threw on a 28" bar and chain, and headed to the wood pile. After about 4 pulls, she gurgled, let the choke off, pulled, and she sprang to life. Runs up nice, although I think I need a larger jet on the high side, with 4 turns out, I could tell it wasnt making any difference turning the screw out. How many turns will the carb take before theres just not enough room to let fuel through?

Second, it wouldnt idle, at all. So I stick a screwdriver in the LA hole, and proceed to turn the screw, and Im thinking to myself "Theres no resistance here," so I peek in the hole, and no screw!!!! Im thinking...why didnt I catch that when I had it apart? Probably the same reason I didnt catch the fact I had an 066 clamp on the intake tube. Have you ever tried to replace that clamp without taking the jug off? I did.

Other than that, It runs great!! Oils, AV mounts are good. Its not as loud as I thought it would be, but thats just fine by me!

It sure is fun huh, I can sympathize with you, the excitement can over run you and you may overlook small details hopefully it isn't catastrophic. I have learned it is good to step away, come back and look over everything like someone else worked on it and you are double checking their work.

When you put on a different intake clamp did it change the carb adjustments? You may also want to adjust the intake lever height before you rejet.

Buck, Im an idiot when it comes to carbs!! Will adjusting the inlet lever actually allow more fuel past the jet? And as far as switching the intake clamp, it shouldnt have messed with the settings. Wouldnt matter anyway, since I started from scratch.

Manual, IM DONE!! I cant afford to keep fixing saws I dont need!!!

Mark, want to trade a BB460 for some cedar!?

Good deal Kris, sorry i never got back to you on the gasket... No there wasn't one in there.

So how does it run compared to the stock 460 and the 066? inquiring minds want to know!

Casey it will let in more gas. Don't worry I was completely ignorant until I did a little research, if you have your carb in you hand there will be two sides that open up one has four screws and the other has one screw. I recommend getting a carb kit while you have it apart it will be around ten bucks, if you have it in your hand and don't need it you can always take it back as long as you don't open it. anyway take both sides off and pay attention how you took them apart. on the side with the single screw it should have a bunch of holes and you should see a screen that is very fine and the whole inside of the carb should be spotless. the other side should have a screw that holds in a spring loaded lever that is recessed further into the carb body. you want the side that has the spring on it to be level or even slightly higher than the bosses on each side don't be afraid to use a straight edge to get it right. You will want to remove the screw, lever and a thing that looks like a pendulum. stick a paper clip down that hole and push out the fine wire mesh on the other side. you just want to make sure it is clean. reassembly should be a snap,if you have the kit just put in the matching gaskets and parts where they belong. There is one part that I have left out and it is the welch plug which is a piece of aluminum about a quarter inch in diameter, we will leave that alone. if problems persist we can remove that and the jet screws and blow them out. when you have it apart you may want to rinse it with gas. Any problems give me a shout.

One thing I differ on - don't use a paper clip from the needle side- you can really easy scratch the seat and it will never seal again. Either blow it out or pick it out from the top side with an o-ring pick or scribe.

Don't go more than 10 thou inch higher on the metering needle... As a general rule it should be set to exactly level with (depend on carb). Yes, it will allow more gas, but you'll be more prone to flooding.

Casey - what carb do you have - exact... Numbers on the side and name on the top.

Lake, its a Walbro HD 17A.

All the numbers, on the cover with the Walbro 21-477 3-7

Under the HD 17A.....313

That's an 044 carb... and normally would be fitted with a .66mm main jet. You are way under jetted if it's stock.

The 460 HD 16a is fitted with a 0.70, 0.66 for "high altitude" and the magnum uses a 0.76mm

Look with a magnifier at the main jet - it should have a number corresponding to the size stamped on it.

Does Bailey's tell you what to do with a carb when they sell you the BB kit?

Yeah, right on the top of the jet, on either side of the hole, is a 6, so Im assuming its a .66 jet. Can I just put a .76 jet in, or should I get the right carb?

No, no remarks regarding carb work with the BB kit.

The high speed needles are the same; the L speed needle differs but all that will do is mess with your "1 turn" calibration, and you've lost that anyhow.

The 0.76 jet is 1128 212 5604. The .070 jet is 5602. Showing the .76 is not available... Hmmm...

Get the 0.70 to start with. Only $4.

Walbro sells the part also so look up on their web site the main jets for the HD carb series. You could use a weber jet reamer...

Anyone care toe take pics of them swapping out a main jet? I didn't know they were removeable....

The first is the jet in the carb, the second is the jet out of the carb.
