I have a 36" Granberg mill and a 36" bar for my 3120, but want to step up to being able to mill 48". I can get the bar/handle extension for the Granberg mill, but I am kind of jumping in head first on evaluating longer chainsaw bars (>50") and which way to go.

I see canon's superbars, Husqvarna's titanium bars, and some others. But I was wanting to know what other makes/brands I should be looking at that I am unaware of, and what I can expect to pay for a 50-60" bar. (I am set up to do .375 pitch .063 gauge, which would be preferable, but if need be, I could do .404/.063).

Thanks in advance.

Sort of a related question for the +50 inch bars.....

Is there a noticeable quality difference, longevity difference, or anything you can think of(that I haven't) between single ended bars and double ended bars(with helper handle) on a milling set-up?

Howdy,
On the GB bars, the actual material is the same for both the single, and double ended bars. Certainly the single ended bar is much more versatile in its applications. Now if you are talking strictly milling, I would give the double ended bar the nod. Double ended bars are much wider in the belly. Say for instance on a 50" bar comparison, the double ended bar is 5/8" wider in the belly. It doesn't sound like much but, the amount of added rigidity really helps during operation, especially when your try to get the mill started straight in the cut. The other advantage to a double ended bar is the use of a roller instead of a bar tip. The roller will outlast a lot of tips.

Gregg
