Is a Dolmar 510 and a 5100 the same thing? My buddy bought a 510 and is a very nice saw I didn't know if there was a difference.

After consulting the IPL for the 510/5100S:

Crankshaft: Same part # for both.

Piston kit: Same part # for both.

Cylinder: Different part #.

Starter: Same part #.

Carburetor: Same part #.

Muffler: Same part #

Soooooo. I wonder if by changing the Cylinder on a 510 to a 5100S cylinder...we could have a 4hp 510.

Prices: 5100S Cylinder: $168.00 510 Cylinder: $111.00

Sooooo. If you ever need to rebuild your 510 or can get a really good deal on a new one....spend the extra $57.00 and get the better cylinder.

Performance difference

Diff cylinder -Porting
Diff ign coil 1000 RPM

Weight difference

Alum vs. Mag crankcases

It seems that the 5100S ignition coil would mount to the 510 and 460? Mounting points look the same, flywheel IS the same.

Wonder what the 510 would benefit from? So.....your 510 is like a Honda CRX hatchback...not as much power, but bolt-ons are possible if you have the $$$. Save your paper route money fellas.

The only think we cannot overcome is the weight savings of the 5100S. Develop more muscles. But...in theory...you could have a 4 Hp 510 saw.

It would still be heavier though.......:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

...and the last time I looked, they had changed the specs of the 5100S from 4 bhp to 3.8 bhp, which adds up better with the 2.9 kW.....:biggrinbounce2: :biggrinbounce2:

I'm glad I saw this post, I was under the impression that the PS-510 was just a newer representation of the PS-5100 but that is certainly NOT the case!

Thanks for the info, I am still searching for a good used PS-5100.

You got that right, but the people that own the 5100 seem to like them, so bit the apple and buy one - they are cheap in the US.....;)

The 510 is still a mean cutting little 50cc class saw, it just has a bunch of extra weight to it.

The 5100 is definately the way to go. One of the best power to weight ratio saws in the little (50cc) class. I wouldn't trade my 5100 for another other 50cc saw out there. I have ran most of them, or owned them at one point in time....

Well, I got a 5100 .....WOW!! as my daughter would say"Totally Awesome Dad" light, powerful, simple controls. These guys got their stuff together. You guys might as well just break down and buy a new one. I doubt your going to find one used for quite some time.
