My Brother in law wants to get a Husky similar to my 55R. What is the closest thing to it now?

One reason I got it is that it had a metal crankcase, do any of them have that now?

I have a 038 and a 044 but usually pick up the 55R when I'm cutting wood.
I like the way the air filter always stays clean for one thing.

You should still be able to get a 55 Ranger if you shop around a bit.
Chanses are that the price is good too.

The closest you can get in current models is the 353, which is a better saw in many respects.

The 359 is getting some rave reviews lately with a boat load of them on Ebay. I have one that EHP built and It's a very impressive saw for sure. Why it isn't classified as a pro saw, I have no idea, however it doesn't come with an XP price tag.
The newer Huskys seem to have a lot less vibration to them.

In the Swedish Husqvarna Catalog the 359 is classified as a pro saw though it isn't available in Sweden ,,,

I'll tell him about the 359, I went to their website and it looks pretty good.

Here 359 is available and is in pro class :)

Yeah but the 455 su*ks the 359 is much better or even the 353. The local dealer even trys to sell the 353 over the 455 he says the emissions on them really kills the power and they are about worth less.

353, 359 and 365 are put into different "classes" of saws, at different markets.
The fact remains that they are pro quality - but not xp.
It is probably the marketing strategy on the different markets that decides the classification.
Stihl does similar things.

Can you get 359 in Norway, Nico?
We can not here.... :dizzy:
It is listed as available, but I have never seen one. I have seen some 2159s, though.
The price for both models are higher than the price of a MS361  , highest for the Husky.
The price for 357xp/2156 is sky high!

Agreed. The 455 is the 55R replacement but it is heavy for its power output. 12.8 lbs with only 3.4 HP. The 353, 359, and 357 are all much better choices.

I have a used 55 Rancher and just purchased the new 455 Rancher. I find the 455 to be a much better saw. Its weight it seems is about the same but the power is better and is a smoother running saw. As far as the 359 ect Yes those are a better saw but how much more are they? Well after looking it up they run almost $100.00 more than the Rancher 455. Which put it out of my price range when I ordered my new saw. I will get a 359 next summer for my son since he wants to go into the firewood buisness. For me I find the 455 to be a very nice saw for my 10 plus cords a year and the 55 Rancher as my very well kept back up. How much saw does one need for a home owner who only gets firewood? Not knocking anyone but really how much more do we need?

Someone said a dealer said the emissions kill the power. Well I dont see that on the 455 at all. It has even more touqe the my 55. But then again the 55 is used but does not smoke and it seems fine on power.
